NYPD Cop Put on Desk Duty for Disabling Bicycle That Would've Inevitably Run Down Lindsay Lohan

If "Don't tase me bro" was 2007's YouTube-sanctioned tagline, then perhaps "Don't bodycheck me off my bike" will be 2008's. After a video made it to YouTube of 22-year-old NYPD officer Patrick Pogan shoving a Critical Mass cyclist off his bike, seemingly unprovoked, the cop has been placed on desk duty with his badge and gun revoked, which is the ultimate of slaps in the face for boys in blue.

Naturally, Pogan accuses the cyclist, a one Christopher Long, 29, of provoking the incident (by weaving in and out of traffic lanes and disobeying a command to stop) and then running into him (i.e. his outstretched, shove-y arms). Indeed, Long as arrested at the scene for with attempted assault, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct — a ridiculous turn of events that stains to NYPD, and leaves them with only one bit of good news: Long isn't black. 'Cause that would've been some shit.

This is the most depressing thing I've seen in a while from a moronic thug pretending to be a law enforcement officer. Desk duty is far too lenient. The charges against the cyclist just show what would have taken place if not for a random camera. This officer has violated any ability to hold a place of trust in society where law enforcement officers are supposed to be capable of more than grunts.

So in the US a police officer attacks a person for no reason and still has a job, let alone his freedom?

That cop is a piece of human filth, at the very core of this turd sits a reptilian criminal. A violent thug which characterizes all who enter the police force and get away with their crimes, all because they are not caught on camera doing their crimes. We need more cameras all right - all pointed directly on this filth which is actually the problem in society. Patrick Pogen is a stain on humanity. we would all be a lot better off if these thuggish jerks were exported to penitentiaries where they belong.

Critical Mass is an event that has caused problems in every city in which it takes place, including an assault by bikers on a couple in Seattle the same night this guy was tackled off his bike. It is such a chaotic event that the foremost organization for bicyclists rights are calling for it to be disbanded! Of course, we can't see what Long was doing just before he was arrested, the camera conveniently focusing directly on two police officers…Intersting. Not only should officer Pogan immediately be re-instated and put back on patrol, he should be put in grooming for command positions later in his career. It will take tough, agressive officers like him to ensure the safety of all New Yorkers as the streets become more filled with lawless scum.

Tim Ryan has no clue what he's talking about when it comes to the Seattle Critical Mass incident. According to eyewitnesses, including at least one pedestrian, the motorist involved shouted angrily that he was late for dinner reservations. He plowed into the crowd and ran over one bicyclist, made a three-point turn into another bicyclist, and tried to complete his hit-and-run by fleeing the scene with a cyclist still clinging to his hood. He's lucky not to have killed anyone, and everyone around him knew it. In response, at least one cyclist punctured his tires to keep him from leaving the scene, and some over-agitated idiot clocked him on the head. That's highly regrettable, and I'm glad the motorist is okay, but if you threaten dozens of people with death or maiming, it's not too surprising if one of them pops off.

Furthermore, the "foremost organization for bicyclists rights" to which Tim refers is almost certainly the enormous Cascade Bicycle Club, which is *not* calling for CM to be disbanded. (Not that there can properly be said to be anything to disband in the first place.) Transformed, yes. Cascade has been putting out a series of balanced, careful statements which Tim has blatantly misrepresented.

(NB: I'm a Cascade member myself; a few of my friends have gone on Critical Mass rides, but it's not my thing.)

I went to high school with Officer Pat Pogan. I was never friends with him in high school- but I could never imagine not doing anything like this without a reason. This might be the work of a corrupt officer.. But it might also be the first reactions of a young man- just on the force. There is so much CRAP that happens in NYC everyday that we don't get to hear about on the news thankfully because men like him- in blue- protect us. I would give him back his job.. release the charges and move on. We can only see what he did- We can't see what the cyclist did to provoke the officer. So don't be so quick to jude.
