Obama Gives Queen iPod; World Roars

Hey, did you hear? Barack Obama gifted the Queen of England a fancy video iPod full of pictures of her and a couple recordings of his speeches. There were also some terrible show tunes nobody enjoys. She said she liked it fine, but the Internets HATE IT, because apparently Obama should have given her Lincoln's bones or some shit. Now comment boards are erupting with people saying that the first couple aren't "classy." Which brings to mind one of my dearly departed grandmother's favorite sayings: "Trust me, people who use the word 'classy' aren't."

No they aren't, grandma. No they aren't.

from abcnews.com:

President and First Lady Obama gave Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II a video iPod with inscription, songs uploaded and accessories, plus a rare musical songbook signed by Richard Rodgers.

Uploaded onto the iPod:

Photos from the Queen's 2007 White House State Visit
Photos from the Queen's 2007 Jamestown, Va., Visit
Photos from the Queen's 2007 Richmond, Va., Visit
Video from the Queen's 1957 Jamestown Visit
Video from the Queen's 2007 Jamestown Visit
Video from the Queen's 2007 Richmond Visit
Photos from President Obama's Inauguration
Audio of then-state senator Obama's speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, and Audio of President Obama 2009 Inauguration Address

The Queen must love show tunes because it was also loaded with about 40 classics.

Britain's Press Association reports that the Royal couple gave the Obamas "a silver-framed, signed photograph of themselves."

2 important speeches–how great–not quite as cocky as a framed portrait of themselves. Some people hate what the Obama's gave the Queen because they must pick apart everything.

Why would the Queen of England want Obama's speeches? really lame, I think her gift to him was perfect an autographed picture of herself. lol

A pair of crystal candlesticks from Tiffany would have been a better choice. I am sure the Queen re-gifts most of the crap she receives anyway from foreign dignataries. Just can't imagine her using an IPod. Also the Obama's are still learning how protocol works since we do not have the aristocracy in this country as they do in the UK and other parts of Europe.

Weezy, calm down, the Queen already had an I-pod and I'm sure its loaded with what she wants to listen to. Bet money the speeches of Hussein Obama, not there, but who really cares.

I'm sure you love the fashion icon Michelle as well. People were talking about her fashion, so I checked it out on Huff Post. Her clothes were so tight she could barely get her fat ass in them and all the little sweaters that don't fit and are buttoned wrong are just gorgeous. Jackie O wouldn't have been caught dead in those get-ups but as long as some are impressed with the stunningly gorgeous fashion icon Michelle O, Just please don't compare her to Jackie O and Princess Di, that is an insult to them. These people don't seem to realize we have eyes and can see.

The WH and the State Department are supposed to have people whose jobs it is to see that the pres and his wife and the 500 with them act appropriately, it is called protocol. I don't know, either they don't listen to them or they brought them to Washington from Chicago. Who knows

@Rhonda: May I ask you why you hate Michelle Obama that much? I mean, come on. You really rip into her. She's not fat at all, and I think some of her dresses are quite nice, and I do not compare her to Jackie O or Princess Di.

Speaking of Jackie O (who was a fashion icon), she caused quite a stir in her first visit to the Queen by wearing a sleeveless dress. Back in the day this was very faux pas. Not everyone makes a good first impression, even those we adore.

Well if the protocol experts are like the other tax cheating weasels Obama has selected for his administration it's no wonder they are out of touch with how to deal with the Queen of England. I do get tired of Michelle being compared to Jackie Kennedy as there is none whatsoever. The times are way different and JK was married to an endless supply of money named JFK. I think Michelle is doing fine on her own, the clothes are classic and simplistic and she is a breath of fresh air. Laura Bush was refined but cared very little about fashion.

i just think this is a big stink about nothing, and i think the gift was thoughtful, it wasn't about the actual ipod but the memories of her old trips. plus, please don't forget the rare musical songbook. it is def better than a signed framed photo. but as usual there is a huge stink about every single thing the obama's do (or don't do).

i really do like michelle. i think she's real, and i think she's beautiful. and i think she represents us well. and i would love to have her curves.

p.s. i have read the queen loved her gifts, and loved michelle, so it's really a moot point.

Jen, both Obama's are frauds, media tells us Michelle is brilliant, she got into Princeton on affirmative action and she didn't do well at all, media, tells "us" how gorgeous she is, she isn't, Halle Berry is gorgeous, MO is not even close, the media, tells her wardrobe is fashionable, she has a big ass poured into a dress with sweaters (fashion or not) appear extremely small, (makes her look even fatter with an even bigger butt) media compares her to Jackie O and Princess Di these women were fashion icons, MO not even close, She is tall and that goes well with clothes, but she has a big butt and a ugly face and bad manners. I don't like being SOLD something I know is not true. Like everyone running around saying "OMG, MO has the most stunning arms! It's like we don't have eyes, we can't see that she isn't gorgeous and she is a looooonnnngggg way from Jackie O and Princess Di. Real icons don't have to be compared to other people.

And for the hicks out there who don't understand the significance of the ipod back hundreds of years visiting dignitaries brought an item that was their countries most recent invention. It it meant to be symbolic. The first Chinese dignitary brought tea to england. Sir Walter Raliegh brought tobacco from the new world. This over 600 year old tradition to present the monarch of England with a modern gadget or invention from your country is a wonderful practice. The fact that this seems to escape some of the people on here cracks me up. Maybe some of you should have paid attention during history class or better yet gone to college. The things some people choose to be mad about. They laughed and said "they deserved it" when people died in Katrina (Rhonda) but they are beside themselves with anger at the kind of sound equipment the President uses. How do these people sleep at night?

That is incredibly rude and it's people like Rhonda who make normal sized people think they need to be a size 2. What is so wrong with having a NORMAL sized body? So, the way to fix that debt is to triple it? GENIUS!!! The "new jobs" that this "legislation" is going to create are going to be government funded jobs, meaning that I, and millions of other tax payers are going to be paying their salary. These "jobs" are going to create government dependency in a way America has never known. Great. Yes, wonderful idea, let's get EVERYONE dependent on government, that way, we won't have any control over it!!! Also, what jobs has it created? What jobs WILL it create? I'm not a fan of President Bush. I'm not saying what he did to our country was a good thing. Don't use Bush as a counter-argument for legitimate concerns about what Obama is doing. He's no longer President. WE CANNOT SPEND OUR WAY OUT OF DEBT. Cut taxes. It doesn't take an incredibly intelligent person to figure out that that would fix our economic woes.

By the way, in your comment #17, you preach that "going to college" is the only way a person can have an intelligent conversation about politics. Who the hell do you think you are? Do you honestly think that those who do not have a college education are any LESS intelligent than those that do? Seriously? How dare you.

Is it not the point of going to college to further educate yourself? Doesn't further education mean that you usually become more intelligent? A college education does not make you better, I do agree with you there. BUT I do think that it can make you smarter. If it doesn't then I think a lot of people are wasting a lot of money on something that is not doing them any good.

@twobear211: College doesn't make you smarter. It just increases your knowledge in some areas. The proof of that you can go to college and still be a real dumb-ass is obvious from the comments here. College also increases the probability of becoming a smug asshole if you were to go by the evidence displayed here.

Obama budget passed last night doubles our national debt in 5 years and triples it down the road.
The dog and pony show in Europe was flashy, but the important news was made in congress.

@bam-a-lam: she isn't going to be any help. Her corporation makes bladeless knives without handles.

Dad has to send her a check every week from his Pentagon retirement and mom wanders around in circles after freaking out from reading the newspaper.

@Whitney: Interesting you should notice the high horse. GetReal has been told to dismount that pony before, but she doesn't know how. She's afraid to actually mingle with people who make up the masses. She will be happy to inform you that she has a "Harvard educated father" while the rest of us just have regular fathers.

@fanofgrendel: Pictures of watermelons do seem to have quite the impact in that educated household, don't they?

I kind of doubt her corporation exists to actually DO anything at all.

Well, as the President moves on to France with his large, but not larger than Bush's entourage(so that makes it okay — totaly okay), let us access the stay in Great Britain.

First and foremost, its good to have a president again that can make us proud to be Americans. He represents us with the class and dignity we have not seen since The West Wing went off the air.

And how about that First Lady? She has qualities, Princes Di would envy if she were still with us. The iPod was a great gift and the snapping of the Queen's bra strap was an endearing gesture. The less reported gift of a Snuggie to Prince Phillip was a bit of a fau paux, but that's okay.

This trip has been all good for our country's status, and perhaps we are on the way to erasing the horrible image left from the Dick Cheney duck hunting expedition with the Queen.

I'm feeling very positive today. It has nothing to do with my finding of the key to the liquor cabinet this morning.

@Rach: Don't forget 'Lis is also queen of Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. We have not seen such a queen since Freddy Mercury died.

Fan,

I'm glad your "feeling" so positive today! Did you see the picture of Obama "tying" the shoe of the Saudi King. When Bush held his hand, it was awful enough. Now Obama is performing sexual favors for the King.

Jobless rate jumps to 8.5 percent, highest since late 1983; payrolls drop 663,000 workers.

Back to real. Time for a stimulus.

FRANCE'S first lady broke with protocol today as she held out a frosty hand to welcome Barack Obama.

Stunning Carla Bruni was business-like in her greeting ??? while her hubby treated Michelle Obama to a hug and Continental double kiss.

The former model gave pecks on both cheeks to Mrs Obama and other dignatories when the couple arrived in France.

But when it came to the dashing US President the beauty kept a noticeable distance.

A little does of reality about what really was accomplished by Obama at the G20.

For a start, the President did not get what, for him, was the original purpose of this G20 summit: a coordinated global fiscal stimulus.

The British media may still fawn before the Obamas the way the US media used to, the First Lady can even touch the Queen in Buck House without being sent to the Tower of London; but the Obama charisma and character could not get an extra cent out of the world community.
