Watch out world, says Howard Kurtz, the nation's Obama-crush might be hazardous to our country's health. Not using a stretch by any means, Kurtz compares Obama's approval rating to that of Kennedy's, and warns of another Bay of Pigs scenario, where the golden boy president makes a fatal political blunder because he gets too cocky.
NBC News is coming out with a DVD titled Yes We Can: The Barack Obama Story…ABC and USA Today are rushing out a book on the election…HBO has snapped up a documentary on Obama's campaign…Newsweek [has a] commemorative issue — Obama's American Dream — filled with so many iconic images and such stirring prose that it could have been campaign literature…Time's cover depicting Obama as FDR, complete with jaunty cigarette holder. Are the media capable of merchandising the moment, packaging a president-elect for profit? Yes, they are.
There is always a level of excitement when a new president is coming to town — new aides to profile, new policies to dissect, new family members to follow. But can anyone imagine this kind of media frenzy if John McCain had managed to win?
Heh.
My friends, maybe if John McCain would have won the election, the media coverage would have been more subdued. Because John McCain is not our nation's first African-American president. But as we can see from the media shitstorm surrounding Sarah Palin, America's interest in the political three ring circus is bipartisan.
"Because John McCain is not our nation's first African-American president"
Yeah, thats why the media thinks he is Jesus.
He could have been a aqua colored cactus with a top hat on it, as long as he has the (D) by his name the media works for him.
Come back when you've met reality.
