When Don Imus made that unfortunate remark on the quality of hair on Rutger's College female basketball team, it had one beneficial side-effect: A window opened for one of the largest discussions about race politics to go down as a proxy to the race issues going on in politics (if no one has noticed yet, Barack Obama has dark skin). But Imus got fired for performing this public service, so you would think Pat Buchanan would be a little smarter than to appear on a morning radio show helmed by the same sort of crazy right-wing bigotry that Imus so frequently spewed.
But Pat Buchanan has it covered, people — right after e makes some comments about the Jews on this White Power radio station.
The Political Cesspool (which wins the award for most honest title, ever) is a Confederate political radio show that describes itself as "(philosophically) pro-White and….against political centralization." Pat Buchanan has appeared on the show twice, once in 2006, and again in June of this year, to talk about, you know, guy stuff, like how America should never have joined WW2 since the Holocaust didn't happen before Britain got involved, and that the "Jewish community (was) beating the drums for war."
Maybe since this is all a history lesson, Buchanan is not being taken to task for his comments. Certainly, he's not getting fired from his post as a political analyst for MSNBC. Because, you know, free speech man: If a celebrated and (in conservative circles) respected journalist wants to go on a neo-Nazi radio show and say the Jews started World War II, it's well within his right. How he manages to keep his cushy cable gig though, is simply baffling. Even after this sort of thing (scroll to about 3:20):

But of course you have a large segment of America that really rely on this stuff.
About that book; it's a good thing Pat is a pundit and doesn't have to think, because if that book of his was submitted as so much as a high school term paper, it would get an F.
Also, I'd like to suggest a radical idea; Barack Obama is getting a majority of the black vote is because he earned it. The strongest item on his resume is community organization in Chicago for primarily poor black neighborhoods. If he was effective at making real change in a city where blacks are disproportionately effected by poverty and not given equal access to health and transportation benefits, why wouldn't he deserve the "black" vote? Heck, if he can solve those types of problems, why wouldn't he deserve everyone's vote?
The really troubling racial question for me is, why are poor white people in the south and mid-west voting for McCain, when he clearly doesn't represent their interests at all?
Buchanan has for years been given a bye, despite the fact that he is a Old Right paleoconservative with just loathesome views on Jewish people, and African-Americans and basically anyone but white, heterosexual, isolationist men. But in a strange way having Buchanan on TV is like giving voice to your crazy, retired uncle with the prejudice and the rank-amateur reading of history gained through all of that free time bitterly bemoaning his lot in life.
