Pentagon Spin Would Be More Efficient If It Were a Circle

Hoping to exploit the MySpace generation's favorite means of communication to counteract "inaccurate" news reports, the Pentagon will begin expending resources on all these new Internet thingies, like IM, podcasting, and maybe even vlogging! Certainly not tied to the public's utter disdane for President Bush, his foreign policy, or the Iraq war, the new initiative hopes to spin the spin with three key elements: a rapid response team, a "new media" division, and what's basically a PR tactic team aimed at getting Pentagon officials booked on cable news and radio programs — all entirely seperate from the organization's official press unit.

"And we're looking at being quicker to respond to breaking news. Being quicker to respond, frankly, to inaccurate statements," [Pentagon press secretary Eric Ruff] said.

"And we're looking at this whole issue of new media — podcasting, and IM-ing and all those kinds of things, where people are basically running circles inside us," he said.

May we be the first to point them in Mark Foley's direction, who's already 12 steps ahead of you on mastering these skills.
