Phil Griffin Invites Himself to a News Corp. Smear Party
MSNBC vs. FNC

It's high time MSNBC chief Phil Griffin, hot off his "promotion" to president of the network, shot back at Fox News. Previously, we've only been treated to feuds between FNC's Bill O'Reilly and MSNBC's Keith Olbermann (and then, Page Six v. Olbermann). Now we're laying the groundwork for Griffin v. Roger Ailes! This is exciting kids. It's just too bad Griffin's primary argument spells the word "contradictory" when you put on special decoder glasses.

Says the Griff:

I totally respect Fox News and what they did. But it's totally cynical. For them to say that is outrageous. They saw an opportunity years ago to create an ideological channel. And they did. I give them total credit. I tip my hat to them. They scored. But it was ideological and opportunistic. It was a business plan

This is very different, of course, from MSNBC struggling for 10 years to find its footing, realizing Olbermann was ratings gold, and deciding to continue leaning left as the alternative to Fox News. This is not ideological, opportunistic, nor a business plan.

"realizing Olbermann was ratings gold"

Gold? Hmm… not quite. According to the ratings, Olbermann (at best) is ratings silver… but probably bronze would be a more accurate fit.

Of course, if you meant "Fool’s Gold," you'd be dead on.
