Please Don't Turn This Website Into a Television Show
Just say no

Hi, Telepictures? This is Reason calling. We heard you were thinking of spinning off your website MomLogic.com into a daytime talk show. We are not mothers, so we don't really ever visit your dot-com, but it's actually quite good, though it certainly lacks the wittiness of Babble. We also understand that moms, especially the stay-at-home kind, are a big chunk of the daytime TV audience, and are responsible for keeping Oprah and Ellen in business.

So why is this most terrible, money-losing, reputation-melting decision you could ever make?

One word: iVillage.

NBC Universal tried to synergize its online property with the daytime gabfest spin-off iVillage Live, which was terrible, and got rebranded as In The Loop with iVillage, which was somehow more terrible, and finally the whole thing was disposed of.

Beth Comstock, the NBC exec who pushed the show forward, got a lot of crap for wasting so much of the company's dwindling cash.

And just because you scored with the syndicated TMZ.com spin-off TMZ does not mean the formula will work well to repeat itself.

What we're really hoping for is this: An industry-wide moratorium in turning women-focused websites into talk shows. Please sign a petition.
