Please Remind Coca-Cola That You Don't Care So Much What Kind of Crap Is In Soda

Would you feel better about the hundreds of calories in a Big Gulp full of Coca-Cola if you knew it had "no added preservatives or artificial flavors"? Executives at the soda giant certainly hope so! Because they're about to stamp tens of millions of cans and bottles with that fact, as well as blow tens of millions in advertising spending to remind consumers that Coke's formula hasn't changed since it was invented in 1886 — except that embarrassing "New Coke" incident that we're going to conveniently forget about — which should somehow offer comfort that your child's favorite afternoon bev is loaded with tooth-decaying sugar and artificial coloring. More cleverly, however, Coca-Cola's new spin in Campaign Pemberton, concentrated for now in the U.K., is that they're giving away top secret details about the special formula that's responsible for the crisp cola flavor. Of course, they aren't telling you anything PepsiCo spies have already tried to get their hands on, but this campaign is important because it's really the first time Coke stopped focusing on attaching its brand to young people having fun with Coca-Cola — which they will return to doing once they figure out that nobody picks up a Coke caring about artificial preservatives, flavors, sweetener, coloring, or cancer.

Who lost their minds at Coke and its ad agency? What an incredibly stupid, stupid, stupid p.r., marketing and advertising campaign. Just 100 percent stupid. Look for huge decreases in sales, huge drops in revenues and profits, and cancelled contracts. Unbelievably stupid. Look for huge increases in revenues, profits and contracts over at Pepsi in the next quarter. All of the Coke executives involved in this stupid move should be reprimanded and suspended for a month to reflect on their stupid advertising.

I didn't realize they had high fructose corn syrup in 1886.
