Somebody who is owed money by Meigher tells us he owes thousands of dollars to freelancer writers and fact checkers for Quest. It's been six months to a year since their invoices were due.
"It's sorta ironic and crazy that a magazine about Manhattan socialites and society can't afford to pay, or simply won't pay the people who work for them," says our unpaid source.
Meigher has a reputation for blaming others for the trouble that consume him. When Meigher Communications — which also published Saveur and Garden Design — collapsed, "he blame[d], among others, his investors for cutting off the cash, his partner for losing faith, and his former publishing director for not producing enough revenue. And he argues that his magazines 'got caught in a time warp of a changing industry.'"
Will we get a repeat performance?
