Yesterday TVNewser rebuffed our story about Keith Olbermann and David Gregory's on-air dust-up – where Keith slammed his fist on the table to get David to quit hogging camera time and wrap up his panel discussion – quoting an insider who says, "As usual, Jossip is trying to create conflict where there is none." Adds TVN: "A source who was in the control room Tuesday night tells us Olbermann was actually trying to get the attention of the floor director, so he could get to a commercial break, and be back with live coverage at the top of the hour."
Was that control room source a one Phil Griffin, also known as MSNBC's chief?
Because it's Griffin's habit to be in the control room, having a hand in directing much of the election coverage. Gregory was witnessed "top-lining" (MSNBC's form of instant messaging) furiously after the on-air thud, presumably with Griffin. We're told that IM exchange was followed by an in-person back-and-forth between Griffin and Gregory. As for Olbermann? He stayed late manning the coverage, so it's unclear whether Griffin made it back down to the third floor, where the studio is, to chat with Keith about the incident.
Not exactly the type of conflict we are creating.

Is MSNBC too cheap to afford a communications system wherein the director could let Gregory know they needed to throw to a break via a microphone in the control booth and an earpiece in Gregory's ear? You mean to tell me that they can afford to pay Olbermann upwards of $4M a year but they can't afford a simple system to let the talent know they need to go to a break? Because I seem to remember seeing an earpiece in Gregory's ear. Imagine that: someone from the PR department at MSNBC lying.
Keep giving 'em hell Jossip. You're driving them (more) insane.
Olbermann is a loser. over rated. Tired of this bitter wind bag
David Gregory is way more ethical and a fair journalist than hate mongering Olbermann. It is despicable for Olbermann to make a living by lebeling someone each week as a worst person in the world simply because they think differently than God Olbermann. I sincerely hope MSNBC will replace him with someone reputable journalist like Gregory.
Watch the video very carefully. Take note of how red Olbermann is in the face by the time they finally throw back to him. So there was no argument, Olbermann wasn't angry, this was all blown out of proportion? Yeah sure. Phil's a lousy liar isn't he?
Whatever the truth was, poor Pat Buchanan almost had a friggin heart attack. You can see him nervously glance over his left shoulder, presumably in Olberidiot's direction, after the loud bang
