Rachel Maddow Boots Dan Abrams Off MNSBC's 9pm Slot

Rachel Maddow, the Air America radio host and perma-filler-in-er at MSNBC, is at last getting her own show on the network. The well-liked (by NBC News staffers) and well-received (by MSNBC viewers) commentator will take over the 9pm slot — a pretty hefty change, given that we're only weeks away from the election. This means, of course, that Hamptons playboy Dan Abrams is losing his show Verdict. None of this is entirely surprising to insiders, nor Jossip readers — MSNBC chief Phil Griffin hinted Maddow getting her own show was a near inevitability, and we've been regularly covering her ascent at the network.

Though removed from primetime, Abrams, however, isn't going far: He remains NBC News' chief legal correspondent, and is expected to continue appearing on the network.

But the real matter at hand is now how well Maddow's show will do, but how well Keith Olbermann's Countdown will do without her. Certainly, Olbermann carries his own weight at the network. But Maddow, as an omnipresent guest and sometime fill-in anchor, has lent her expertise to Olbermann's crusade against the Bush administration and John McCain. It's likely that, with her own show to handle, she will have little to no time to appear on Olbermann's program, nor anywhere else but daytime.

Somehow I think Keith will soldier on.

It's too bad about Abrams, but I think a Keith+Rachel block in the evenings will be formidable!

Hey, didn't Alison Stewart's gig at NPR dry up? Maybe she can come back to guest-host! LOOOOVED her.

Olbermann's already lost Dana Milbank now Rachel. All of this gives me less incentive to watch his show and more to watch Rachel who isn't afraid to have on conservative guests (who she then shreds, dices, and chops to itty bitty pieces).

Just one more reason to delete MSNBC off my TV….first the nonsensical rantings of Matthews, then the Keith "Jump the Shark" Olbermann show and now THIS?????

I'd like to pull an Elvis and blow the TV to smithereens……Just what we need - some androgynous dyke and her left wing diatribes……Next!

Oh what a surprise!!!

This queen of mean and miss information, like her buddy Keith will do them both in (hopefully)

Their obscure vision of American is astounding.

The only thing the viewers (all 100) of them, is that, what goes around, comes around!!! And maybe someday they will be selling hot dogs in front of the Fox News Building.

well Paul, you musta nearly lost your shit when you saw Ellen + Portia's wedding pic on the cover of People . . .clearly the 'dykes' have arrived + are acceptable to the mainstream for this to have come to pass thx in large part to Ellen's public profile & affection + hight esteem she is held in;re Abrams, this is 'lezbeein' wave pt. deux as he was within days almost a yr ago of being replaced by Rosie, but unfortunately, she let slip at a book signing the pending deal + Abrams only caught wind of these developments in the NY Times lol . . .needless to say he flipped out + managed to hold on until this time . . Rachel is a well credentialed journo being the Rhodes scholar she is as well as having 'paid her dues' with Air America + the many 'pundit' appearances on MSNBC + the greater public respect & appreciate her analytic skills not to mention her less than harpie delivery . .go Rachel !

Rachel is great, but I'm sorry to see Dan Abrams go. His show was my favorite, he was evenhanded and his show was fun. I don't think Rachel will be as evenhanded. Bye Dan :(

Rachel Maddow is the most biased news commentator I have ever seen with the possible exception of Obermann. She's completely utterly 100% leftist biased. I've watched her show a few times and it's pure propaganda.

It's a sad commentary on msnbc that is has descended so quickly after losing tim russert, the last of the great unbiased, fair journalists in this country.

Rachel and Keith are betrayors of the public trust because all they try to do is sway it their way.
