Reading 02138 So You Don't Have To
Many Thousands of Words Later, Harvard Is Still Great, But Facebook is less so

Every few months, an article comes out to make you worried your most precious internet commodity, Facebook, is under attack. Harvard programmers and entrepeniers have long been accusing Mark Zuckerberg of stealing programming ideas in Facebook's developmental stages.

02138, the magazine for Harvard alums who are not over it yet, has devoted 5000 plus words on the issue.

We can't really blame them for the inflated coverage: After all, it's not as if a Yale dropout could have come up with Facebook.

This dispute is over programming for a similar social networking site, ConnectU, three other Harvard students hoped to launch before Facebook arrived. As a student, Zuckerberg did programming for ConnectU, but eventually left to launch Facebook. But this computer programming drama could have a big effect on your Facebook status:

Now this four-year “blood feud,” as one judge described it, is set to finally play out. Court-authorized forensic data experts are rifling through Zuckerberg’s computer hard drives, searching for code and evidence of intellectual property theft. If they find anything, the ConnectU group hopes to take over Facebook, asks that the site be shut down, and demands damages equal to or greater than the site’s value. If they don’t, the case will likely be tossed out.

The piece goes on to describe Mark Zuckerberg as "obnoxious" and details some of his more cutthroat business practices. Unfortunately, people don't care about the tiny fingers lost in the third world to produce sneakers and no one cares about the causalities of Facebook.

Still, it must suck to have a vendetta against the most popular social networking site around; imagine a world where all the pleasures of Facebook just pissed you off.
