Remembering Brad Renfro By Plugging His Band's MySpace Page

Arriving in our mailbox this morning was this reminder that, exactly six months ago today, an actor who was not Heath Ledger died:

Hello! :)

I am a huge fan of the late Brad Renfro. Today, Tuesday, July 15th, marks 6 months since Brad's untimely passing. Is there anyway that you could mention something in honor of Brad on the anniversary of his death? This is a significant and sad day for Brad's family, friends, and fans who loved him dearly, and as a fan, I think it would be so nice to see someone in the media actually pay respect to him on this day of remembrance.

And we were totally ready to whip up a couple lines of copy noting Renfro's half death-day … until we got to the second paragraph of the email:

Where there was this request:

Also, I was just wondering if you could do a quick mention about Frodad, Brad's band. They sound amazing! My favorite song and probably best known song is Momma Darlin'. They recorded an album, "Thriving to Flourish", a couple of years ago and are hoping to release it soon in memory of Renfro, you know? I think this would be a wonderful way to pay tribute to him…by releasing the music that meant so much to him. The only problem is…that the word needs to spread about this album in order to get it released, which is why I was hoping that you could just mention Frodad…it doesn't have to be huge article or anything, just a small mention would be fine! Please help them out! I would be grateful forever as this is a great way to honor Brad Renfro on this 6 month anniversary of his passing. I only hope that you can help in someway and help get Frodad's album released, and to help keep Renfro's memory alive.

This was followed by links to Frodad's MySpace page.

Ah yes, posthumous publicity is the best way to remember the fallen.

Firstly, it's not the anniversary of his death. Anniversary comes from the Latin word, 'ano', which means year. So, anniversaries come once a year, not every six months.

The whole e-mail smacks of a tasteless publicity stunt by the band themselves. They really need to hire a publicist who has some taste and class and stop sending out random e-mails to celeb gossip sites.
