Chelsea was never drunk like the Bush twins.

Chelsea was never knocked up by some neighborhood dude and had to be rushed into a shotgun wedding.

Let's get this straight…the left supposedly preaches tolerance for those that are different than the norm(gays), those that make bad choices (drug users & pregnant teens), yet cannot exhibit any of that tolerance when a conservative falls into any of those catagories? If you do, then you can understand that your kids may not keep your values irregardless of how hard you try to teach them. Are you gonna blame your mother for your sins? The problem with Bristol is not blaming Sarah Palin for her daughter's sins, but blaming her for creating the environment where this situation was able to bloom:

#1 If this kid had options like the pill or condoms, perhaps she wouldn't be pregnant at 16 yrs.

#2 We can't leave the situation alone because her mother has put her in the media's path.

#3 These are judgment issues with Sarah Palin. She wanted to fire the Librarian because the books were not up to par with her values, she had the commisioner fired, she abused her power to have her brother-in-law fired because of his nasty divorce with her sister and the SCANDALS that I have not listed.

So yeah, I feel sorry for Bristol, but her mother put her in this position.

We can't control what our children do, no matter how they are raised, or what they are taught. When children reach certain ages, they either accept what they are taught, or reject it. As for abortion issue, I don't think it's EVER right to destroy a human being. You are here because your mother chose life. You would have had no say in living or dying if she had chosen an abortion. You would have never had the chance to do the things you do, speak out the way you do…
Even children who are conceived through rape are people. They didn't choose the way they were conceived, but they were conceived nonetheless. If raising a child of rape is not your choice, then adoption is always an option. I have a very dear friend who adopted a child who was conceived after rape, and she is a beautiful, smart, and very productive human being. Don't these unborn babies deserve the same rights as you have? If a woman CHOOSES to have unprotected sex, that's where her choice ends. USE PROTECTION, how smart do you have to be to do that? If rape is the case, with proper counselling, and a reputable adoption agency, this child (who isn't responsible for the act) can live life to the fullest!

I've been a social worker working with pregnant teens for years, and I can tell you that teen girls get pregnant for one basic reason: poor supervision. You can lecture them about abstinence or shove condoms down their throat all you want, but if they're poorly supervised they feel unloved, and if they feel unloved they go about looking for that love in other places… first from a boy and then from a baby. And because they're poorly supervised they have all the time in the world to have sex, yada, yada, yada. I don't know the Palin family, but I can tell you that these are things I have found true in every case I have ever been handled, and in my work we generalize. We don't do it to be cruel, it's more a time management issue.

I believe in sex education, but only because I think that we should be doing SOMETHING to combat the problem. Abstinence only would be fine, except I think it's irresponsible to throw a bunch of hormonal teens together and not give them all the facts about disease prevention. Having worked with some of these girls, you would be amazed how ignorant they are. Some have never even heard of an STD! I really don't see how purposefully not giving them all the facts is a good idea.

Regarding what Republican said about abortion, I don't agree…

First of all, regarding adoption. I understand that it has worked for some people, but it is not a good solution for most unplanned pregnancies due to the fact that (even with unplanned pregnancies) women bond with their babies before they are born due to the chemicals that are released later in pregnancy. The "adoption is the answer!" way of thinking ignors this and either sets these women up for failure (because they feel like they have to keep their babies even though they aren't ready), or dooms them to a life of intense sorrow (because they have to deal with the guilt and regret of giving their baby away). Abortion has its moral issues (which I will get to in a minute) but it has been proven to give these women more of a chance to lead a normal productive life than those that carry the baby and give it away. Most of those women never get over the pain, because bonding with a baby and then giving it away is such an unnatural thing to do. It is an alternative, but clearly not the right one for everyone.

Regarding whether or not abortion should be criminalized, I don't argee with that for a HOST of reasons, from practical reasons to logical reasons. It's hard to know where to start, but the strongest argument is that no human being should be forced to use their body to keep another human being alive even if that other person is their child. Some would say that most parents would gladly give up both kidneys to keep their child alive, but you have to realize that there is a difference between children (who have lived on their own and you HAVE bonded with) and non-viable fetuses (who can't live on their own and you HAVEN'T bonded with). It's idealistic to expect a person who just found out they were pregnant (and didn't want to be) to make more sacrifices than a person who has already had a child and bonded with that child. It is easy to judge these people for their actions but most people (even those that claim to be pro-life in public) will have abortions under MANY circumstances. Having worked in social work for a long time I know this as an ABSOLUTE fact. I've seen Catholic priests stand behind women having abortions because they knew it was the right decision given the circumstances. Granted those were extreme circumstances, but most women do not have abortions haphazardly. Threatening abortion rights would effect those women too.

In my opinion the unborn has a right to life, but not a right to another person's body to survive just like no one else in society has a right to another person's body to survive. Unfortunately they are in a precarious situation where they need the person's body to live, but other people (for example those in need of an organ transplant) are also in need of another's body but the law does not mandate that. I saw that Republican mentioned "unprotected sex" as a reason why women should be forced to have the baby, but that argument loses credibility with me when the same person goes on to argue that rape victims should be forced to carry the baby because they can seek out counseling and adoption. I don't know the last time this person was raped, but counseling is not a magic pill that makes it go away and neither is adoption! Counseling is barely a salve, if that, and being forced to carry a baby that you will probably bond with only to give it away is an even worse pain. To me that way of thinking is heartless toward rape victims and poorly thought out besides. I don't even want to THINK about what would happen to the fabric of our society if women across the country were forced to choose between an unwanted pregnancy and an illegal abortion. That happened in the past, and obviously it failed. Shouldn't we learn from our mistakes?
