Should Barack Obama Be Judged On The Individual Merits Of Each Of His Financial Supporters/Constituents?
'Yes!' Say Outraged Gay Rights Activists

"A gay rights group on Monday urged Barack Obama to cut ties with a gospel singer who it says spreads false information about homosexuality being a choice," reports CNN.

And while we get that this is about the singer (Donnie McClurkin) fundraising for Obama, we're worried that this just might be a slippery slope. What's next, are they going to go through the man's iPod and use every conservative-slanted single against him in the court of public opinion? (Meanwhile, if we're looking so closely at campaign donors now, why is it that nobody ever wants to report how the Republican candidates are generally inextricably linked to big oil?)

The truth is, we happen to think homosexuality is more than a state of mind, but then we can't attest to the feelings of some of our favorite musicians. Meanwhile, we implore you not to judge us based on the proliferation of Kanye, Jay-Z and Notorious B.I.G. in our MP3 collection.

For the record, we don't think all women are bitches. Just the ones who work in fashion.

While I am offended when people spread misinformation or hate about queers, I don't think Obama should have to do a background check on every donation he receives. I am a gay man, and I don't exactly care about who is supporting Obama. I just want him to be elected. The important part for me is that his policies line up with what I believe in more than the other candidates do.

If Obama has to return a bunch of checks and waste a bunch of time (or rather, his interns' time) investigating every donation, he would end up with probably $100 in his war chest.

What about all the leftists that might be supporting him? What about all the church-going members that are supporting him? Does he have to investigate everything that supporter's church does and agree with every policy of that church? Does he have to sit down (well, not him so much as an intern) and watch every Oprah show to see if she is worthy of donating money to him?

Give me a break, queer activists. We have a lot bigger fish to fry right now than bothering ourselves with this trivial crud. I am a queer activist in Brooklyn and I'm a lot more worried about basics like safer schools, teens being thrown out of their homes, and hate crimes.

You're missing the point. This isn't just some donor or vague contributor.

Barak has created a "Gospel Tour" as his backup for traveling around the South, courting the black conservative vote. This is one of the headliners he'll be sharing the stage with every day.

He invites on tour with him a guy who is a notorious wannabe-leader of the "ex-gay" movement, gospel-style. Would you think it irrelevant if, say, Hillary was touring the country with a self-professed racist who was popular among gays?

I hope he gets plenty of those black homophobe votes, because he's losing nearly all his gay support this week, over this.

Adamblast is correct - this isn't some guy who simply wrote a check. Obama's people created a series of events, and courted this well-known homophobe to appear on stage with the candidate. Unforgivable.

Although his UNFORTUNATE opinion about gays, I love Obama. He seems to be a SERIOUS candidate and has great proposals (way better then Bush's ones). I always find his SPEECHES very INTELLIGENT, specially this one: http://www.weshow.com/us/p/206.....night_show

Homosexuality has really ravished our children,” said McClurkin, in an interview at the FamilyChristian.com website. He referred to homosexuality as abominable in a 2004 interview with a Christian magazine in Britain.

In numerous interviews, McClurkin has made widely known that he has struggled against his own attractions to other men — attractions which he says are the result of having been raped by STRAIGHT male pedophile relatives twice when he was a child.

“Donnie McClurkin has said that he is at war with the gay community, so it seems inconsistent with what the senator has said or even his own history and voting record.”

Less attention has been paid to two of the other performers. Joining McClurkin on Sunday, and performing with others on Friday in North Charleston, will be a sister duo called Mary Mary.

The sisters, Erica and Tina Atkins, interviewed in December and asked them how they feel about gays
“I don’t agree with the lifestyle… They have issues and need someone to encourage them like everybody else — just like the murderer, … just like the prostitute.”

Tina Atkins echoed those comments saying, “We don’t necessarily agree with the lifestyle, but we don’t pride ourselves on bashing.” (SURE YOU DONT - RIGHT!)

“Everyone has things in their life that they need to CORRECT…” said Tina Atkins. “Even though that’s the way we feel, we don’t bash.”

Best to ask gay people if they consider that bashing. I sure am offend you WHORE.

Does being compare to a WHORE offend you Ms. Atkins?

McClurkin, Mary Mary and the Grammy Award-winning Walker that all three “have spoken aggressively against the LGBT community without apology.”

I am not gay but my brother is. He is not 'sick', does not need to be 'saved' from himself or change his 'ways'! He is a wonderful, smart, kind and compassionate man. He is a hero to all who know hm. Obama has been my candidate but I'm not sure now.
