Spin Jobs: Marion Cotillard Suddenly More Aware of Foreign Relations
Also, she loves Freedom Fries

Cate Blanchett, Julie Christie, Laura Linney, and Ellen Page all lost out on this year's Best Actress Oscar, so they and their publicists jump to the top of the list of suspects for reminding the media of a certain year-old statement from the night's winner, Marion Cotillard, about 9/11.

"I think we're lied to about a number of things", Cotillard told French program Paris Dernière last February. "On the Internet you see all these films about a 9/11 conspiracy theory. It’s fascinating, addictive even. [...] We see other towers of the same kind being hit by planes, are they burned? There was a tower, I believe it was in Spain, which burned for 24 hours. It never collapsed. None of these towers collapsed. And there [New York], in a few minutes, the whole thing collapsed. [...] They were finished, I think, by 1973, and to re-cable all that, to bring up-to-date all the technology and everything, it was a lot more expensive, that work, than destroying them."

Now, golden statue in hand, she's backtracking. "Marion never intended to contest nor question the attacks of September 11, 2001, and regrets the way old remarks have been taken out of context," insists her attorney Vincent Tolesano. She also regrets how the comments may impact her earning potential.

For better or worse, celebrities like Christine Ebersole do not.

This is so sad. Americans really wanted to like this person. We were all so happy to see her win. That anyone can believe a theory this stupid, so geared to put Americans in the worst possible light can only be attributed to one of two things;
a) she is retarded. I dont think so.
b) she is just another in a long line of people, including a lot of Americans, who hate this country and want to believe the worst that can be dreamed up. No matter how impossible.
Imagine if the situation was reversed and it was an American star making such an accusation against France. Can you imagine what the reaction would be? Anyone doubt that?

Peter, I think the wolf has been breathing in your ear. It's quite a jump to suggest that Marion Cotillard "hates" America, and you have no evidence of that. American actors say negative statements against other countries all the time and no one does anything about it.The "firestorm" over Marion Cotillard's opinions will not happen; everyone in the business wants to work with her, regardless of her politics. In a Bush recession, I suggest those who wish to turn this into a "fire-storm" will be hard-pressed to turn enough Americans out to boycott her or her films, and those who are building this issue into a scandal would never go to see a French film in any case. This whole issue is utter nonsense. Many Americans agree with Cotillard, and many more just like her enthusiasm, her talent, and her contributions to film. Have a drink; go to be early, get up and do something positive rather than this BS.

"she is retarded. I dont think so"
Nonetheless, her embarrassingly wierd, gushing performance when she received the Oscar tends to endorse the bird-brain (tête de piaf)theory. She blathered on about angels and the like ; not the best references for a political analyst…
