Stephen Colbert's Superpower: Cutting Campaign Donations to Republicans
The bump stops here!

Remember when someone asked Stephen Colbert to speak at the 2006 White House Correspondents Association dinner? Back in those more innocent times (before $4 gas and Miley Cyrus), it was still conceivable that maybe someone who saw The Colbert Report, a spin-off of Comedy Central's Daily Show, would think it was non-ironic, and that Colbert was actually a fundamentalist right-winger. But doubt no more (if anyone was), Colbert's show definitively favors Democrats: or at least other Democrats like to think so.

Colbert has always played himself like a more emphatic O'Reilly, and his meta-commentary on media talk shows means he can treat guests accordingly.

But while Colbert often boasts of the "bump" in popularity for the guests who visit his show for a sit-down, it turns out that only Democrats receive a boost where it counts: in the finance deparmtne.t

A new study using some elaborate data collection means and analysis by Excel spreadsheets shows that while Republicans typically raised less money after making an appearance, Democrats will raise an average $8,247 more in donations after a guest spot.

By that logic, it would be wise for Democrats to go out and write books so they have an excuse to get on Colbert's show. Though, it is not wise for Republicans to follow this strategy.
