Strapped For Cash? Inappropriately Dressed?
Odds Are, You Used To Work For Us

Calling all college kids! Did you catch the latest installment of SmartMoney TV?

Of course you didn't! You were far too busy skipping class, nursing your hangers and having unsatisfying alcohol-fueled sexual encounters with peripheral acquaintances, then documenting said encounters in equally unsatisfying (and not very nice!) blog entries.

If you had seen it, however, you'd have endured a long, painfully cheesy segment that purports to teach you how to instill your college-aged child with a sense of fiscal responsibility.

Boring? Yes. But also secretly amazing.

Naturally, most of the featured kids look like they have it pretty together already (from the enterprising young gent in the financial aid office to the throngs of students dutifully toting around their schoolbooks in their bright red North Face backpacks) with the exception of the lone, depressing figure who appears at just about the 1:20 mark.

"I am very much in debt," he says. "About—about $120,000 by the time I'm finished."

Yep, as fate would have it, this incurable spendthrift is, of course, none other than part-time student/full-time goober, a.k.a. our own former Intern Joe (who's old non-paying job is, remarkably, still up for grabs!)

And we blame ourselves. Perhaps had we set a better example for Joe—instead of introducing him to a no-frills world with no money, no health insurance, where everyone lives in cubicle-sized apartments, eating cheese sandwiches, smoking herbal cigarettes and bitching about "The Man"—he'd have found financial security at long last!

That said, we take zero responsibility for the whole "dressing head to toe in black despite the fact that it's the hottest week of the entire fucking summer" thing.

Now that's just plain impractical.
