Man, the Writers Guild of America has been busy lately. Along with organizing the strike that is ruining the evening activities of millions of Americans, they have authorized another work stoppage that would kill the pre-dinner routine of literally thousands of old men.
The 500 writers, producers, editors, artists and assistants at CBS News have worked without a contract since April 2005. The union is hoping that the threat of a strike will bring about negotiations for the first time since January, but we just think they’re being trendy.
If there is a strike, nonunion staff/scabs would write and produce the newscasts, and CBS said it was fully prepared.
Of course CBS says a lot of things: that it doesn’t mind that Katie Couric is in last place and that it has good back-up programming for the current writers strike. A note to CBS News: twenty minute Katie's Notebook segments is not a back-up plan.
