Sundance Report: So, Like, There Are Movies and Stuff to See, Too?

While we waste away the week from the confines of our cold, barely insulated headquarters, we’ve made sure to place spies on the ground at Sundance, who are filing away from the cold, completely-lacking-insulation confines of Park City, Utah. From a smorgasbord of tips, we’ve compiled the following Sundance cheat sheet:

• Population: 80 percent dudes, 15 percent cougars, 5 percent other.

• At the Gen Art and Delta Sky Lodge Opening Party on Friday night, guests were virtually unwelcome — even those who paid extra for their VIP passes. Dustin “Screech” Diamond, however, was allowed entry (to watch his friend cripwalk on the dance floor), though his presence was likely due to the fact that there were no “real” celebrities in town yet.

• Also Friday night, a Diddy sighting! A spy spotted the rap mogul and his “entourage of ‘goons’ arriving at the token late night drunk food destination … His phone was glued to his face and he didn’t seem to care about the woman by his side, who did not seem to resemble his girlfriend by any means.”

• So far, the nightly MySpace parties at Tao “have actually been a bust.” One source says a “bunch of my friends had tables there and everything, and they still left after 30 minutes because it was horrible.”

• First day feel, summarized by a single overheard quoted uttered on Main Street: “Is that Gary Coleman?! In the cowboy hat? Why are they following him around?”

• Saturday night was the American Eagle Whiteout party, with Jared Leto’s band 30 Seconds to Mars performing. Katie Holmes’ ex Chris Klein was there, where he was spotted making out (”for about an hour”) with Big Love’s Ginnifer Goodwin. Ryan Reynolds was there, sans Alanis Morisette, as were Tara Reid, Emil Hirsch, and “a really drunk Heather Graham.” As for notorious asshole Jared Leto? We hear he was “great to his fans” and “sang to his biggest fan in the front row and walked through the crowd during their big hit ‘The Kill.’” All in all, there were some 1,400 people trying to get into a party that had a 420 person capacity. Naturally, “the security guards were having a lot of fun bouncing anyone who wasn’t on the list.”

• Next stop that night – for the VIPs, at least – was the Motorola party. Let’s just say it was “fabulous and scandalous,” packed with the same score of celebs and their Hollywood agents and producers.

• Elsewhere, the “gorgeous” Scott Speedman was spotted out and about, while the Lexus Hybrid and Lush Eco lounge (”Kristin Bell was adorable … but what was Screech donig there?,” says one source), Delta Sky Lounge, and Saturn Hypnotiq Lounge all welcomed a flurry of A- and B-listers. (Okay, mostly the latter.)

• At the Kari Feinstein Lounge, we hear Lindsay Lohan might’ve been right about her James Franco suspicions: “God that guy is gay,” one attendee tells us.

• And if you’re looking for a grand finale for the weekend, it comes in the form of celeb blogger Perez Hilton getting denied from the American Eagle event. Our tattler “watched him get pushed to the back of the line, spikey pink hair and all. I know we were in VIP and didn’t see everyone, but I definitely did not see him in there which made me smile, muahahahaha.”

• From last night’s Premiere magazine party, we’re told “Chris Wylde was a fucking asshole” while Bobby Cannavale was “hitting on anything that walked.” ‘Nuff said.

• The Jane House event yesterday was “pretty dull,” but … “Josh Hartnett showed up! I don’t think he stuck around for long, but Josh Hartnett showed up! Isn’t that enough?”

• Yesterday’s Delta Sky Lodge event welcomed Survivor winner Yul Kwon, causing one partygoer to ask, “So this is the caliber of celebrity here now?”

Well, at one point, Sundance was about the films.
