Swoon Magazine Party Makes Us Feel Faint, Vaguely Nauseous.

Last night Swoon magazine had their 4th issue release party at the Clemente Solo Velez cultural center on the L.E.S. We went to check out the crowd, and see if anyone there, unlike us, had actually read the magazine—which has poor, fallen Leelee Sobieski on the cover, and Charles Bukowski's unconsenting ghost giving style advice inside.

And for the most part, no one had! So why did they come? One bewildered young man said, "I was following some girl I have a crush on, but I think she left. But she brought me here! That's a good sign, right?" (Um, maybe not). A girl wearing a plaid bra as a top said she'd never read the magazine, "But my friend's one of their photographers." That's honest!

Genesis P-Orridge DJ-ed and generally looked exhausted, and Preacher and the Knife played—we'd never heard of them before, but they didn't suck. We might even like them.

This young lady's outfit was made entirely of kitchen supplies. From the back, it gave new meaning to Swoon's "NYC Radical Cheek" tagline—assuming the tagline had an old meaning, of course.

Horribly constructed sentence, my friend. There is a time for commas, and a time for periods- learn it.

Next time try not to throw your photo in the washing machine before posting it on your blog. A clear photo will really give your 5 readers something to focus on aside from your appalling syntax. But, I'm sure your mother is used to it by now.

Hi, Laura!

Where in that sentence would you put a period? Because I can't find it. Maybe a semi-colon? In any case, if excessive commas are good enough for Joan Didion, they're good enough for me.

Also, putting digital pictures in the washing machine is pretty difficult–impossible, in fact.

Does your mother know you spend your evenings making snarky comments on blog posts? I don't think she'd approve.

Thanks for being one of our five readers,
Anastasia

[that's a sentence]

It has poor … style advice inside.
[all of that intermediate stuff is adjectival]

Flea: You might prefer it that way, but I don't think the way it's written is grammatically incorrect. I also think the meaning is pretty clear.

Thanks,
Anastasia

I think the way the sentence was written was fine…a period anywhere would just sound dumb. Lighten up Laura–your life is honestly SO boring that you sit online and feel sanctimonious all day? And for only having 5 readers, Jossip sure does have a lot of site sponsorship and ads. Last time I checked that means this site enjoys a lot of traffic. What do I know, though?

I can't believe grammar is the most controversial thing about this article! I took the photo, and it was hard to get. The crowd of people was constantly closing in.

Taking displays of minor insanity into account, I had fun. Who ever said we didn't? The most upsetting thing of the night was Anastasia refusing to dance with me.
