A Mighty Heart

Angelina Jolie thought she was going to make a picture celebrating the life of a much beloved journalist. Then she forgot she was white, banned press from a movie about freedom of the press, and watched as distributor Paramount Vintage, who tried to encourage an atmosphere of religious understanding at a special screening, instead hosted a platform of hatred.

There's nothing here you didn't already know, believe to be true

Angelina Jolie's press freeze-out uproar ain't over yet, chicos y chicas. If you'll recall, the Might Heart leading lady froze out all Fox outlets from red carpet and press events at the movie's premiere (while requiring others to sign a restrictive interview request contract barring personal questions), only to backtrack when word got out she was acting all hypocritical and stuff. Now, Fox corporate cousin Page Six leads with more news bites:

But tipsters tell Page Six that Jolie went on to ban some entertainment weeklies, including Us Weekly and Life & Style, from speaking to her at the film's junket on Friday at the Waldorf-Astoria - only deigning to allow access to OK! and her reliable ally, People magazine, which is inclined to swallow her p.r. hook, line and sinker.

Well, of course People would be allowed — they've been padding her private jet budget for some time now. As for OK!? Well, they did shell out $2 million to party with boyfriend Brad Pitt and his Ocean's 13 co-stars, all in the name of Darfur charity … so, sure, put them past the velvet rope, too. Also, who do you think is going to pick up the tab for Angelina's $26 dress?

Something about being a "freedom of the press" hypocrite

Yesterday morning, Fox gossip Roger Friedman reported on Angelina Jolie's press contract, which reporters were required to sign if they wanted any chance of talking to the Mighty Heart actress at the premiere.

Among the restrictions: Do not ask her any "personal relationship" questions; interview may only be used to promote the movie; interview will not disparage Jolie; if any rules are broken, the interview tape will not be released. Meanwhile, the movie she was promoting is about what happens when the freedom of the press is infringed upon, and the premiere was sponsored by Reporters Without Borders. So there was that hypocrisy. (Say what you will about them planning to ban all Fox News press.)

Quickly, Angelina's "bone-headed, overzealous lawyer" lawyer Robert Offe claimed he was the one who drafted the contract, and that Angelina knew nothing of it. Uh huh. So what's the resolution? No more contract, reports Us. So feel free to fire away those "When's the next adoption?!" lines.

After the jump, Angie explains the whole thing to Jon Stewart.
