Last week, the Boston Phoenix had an interesting article about how the writers strike is shaping political coverage for young adults. Guess what? Alessandra Stanley has a piece about the return of Carson Daly that touches on many of those same points. Well, what are you going to do? Of course, other than get all self-righteous and annoyed?
An excerpt of Times TV scribe Alessanda Stanley's item on election coverage, as it appeared this morning and as archived by LexisNexis:
As the excerpt appears now:
A mere typographical error, or did Alessandra forget to delete the entire part of that first draft, which originally read "fucktard." Not that we'd ever accuse her of ever thinking to put such obscenities in her copy, but let's not forget the feud between Stanley and Fox Newser Geraldo Rivera over a certain "nudging for the camera" of Hurricane Katrina victims that required Byron Calame to get involved. If she's anything like us, she'll take any cheap back stab.
We're aware Alessandra Stanley watches her fair share of television, even if her accuracy levels suggest she doesn't own TiVo and that there's a Rachel Ray recipe on the burner that she's giving more attention to while she's reporting from the couch. So it comes as a touch unnerving that, in her article today about Larry King and his interview subjects, Alessandra emits an aura of aplomb given King's inability to conduct a hard-hitting interview.
Other than the fact that Mr. Bush promised not to lecture President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia before the Group of Eight meeting next week in St. Petersburg, Mr. King did not elicit news or curveballs from the president.
Even when he ventured into areas like the war in Iraq, public opinion polls or the president's past friendship with Mr. Lay, Mr. King looked less like an interrogator than a hotel concierge gently removing lint from a customer's coat..
Sure, Star Jones may declare "Larry, you ask the tough questions," but King's checking out as a journalist ain't new news. But at least, at a cursory glance, Alessandra won't be requiring a correction tomorrow.
