Hilary Duff & Lindsay Lohan still on track to quarrel on screen

It's been quite some time (August, actually) since we filled you in on Bad Girls, the MTV movie set to be the first big screen pairing of everyone's favorite teen plastics, Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff.

It's just that Hollywood, like Washington, is filled so much top-level bureaucracy that even Ann Moore wouldn't know who to axe — which is why this project has taken so long to get off the ground.

Our Lindsay-meets-Hilary insider reports that Susan Lewis, the executive put in charge of the project, was let go in December. Then there was that whole Dreamworks-Paramount merger. And yet through all this turmoil, MTV brass is still willing to work with Hilary and Lindsay's egos to make this film work.

But should the big screen project never pan out, there's always publishing. And the small screen. MTV signed Bad Girls author Alex McAuley for a sequel already (yep, even before the film was produced or released), hoping to mint a teen-friendly serial. And inside 5555 Melrose in Los Angeles, there's also chatter of creating a "six episode MTV miniseries" with matching DVD release.

Meanwhile, rumor has it Jena Malone (who unfortunately has already succumbed to the typecasting of brooding teenager) has signed on in a supporting role opposite Hilary, who's managed to get all references to abortion nixed from the script. Possible directors Jessica Sharzer (Speak), Abel Ferrara (Bad Lieutenant), Sean McNamara (Raise Your Voice), and a few music video directors have all been cut from the list, begging the question: Who wants to take the risk of possibly ruining her career for a film that will entail little more than keeping the twosome at opposite corners of the set except during takes?

And lastly, should McAuley's book-to-movie project turn into a gem, MTV already lost out on his third undertaking – "a vampire thriller intended for Jake Gyllenhaal and (horror!) Jessica Simpson," says our tipster – which CAA is auctioning.

Bad Girls-gate: No drugs or abortion for Hilary Duff

While Lindsay Lohan tries to form a friendship with Hilary Duff, we have some newsies on their upcoming film together, Bad Girls.

MTV is still lagging in its search for a director while Raise Your Voice's Sean McNamara is a no-go. But on to more interesting news.

Producers are still rolling ahead with negotiations with the girls, despite what their reps might tell you. Hilary's camp is in a huff over mentions of drugs and abortion in Alex McAuley's book that the film is based on, which means MTV is busy stripping the script of any references.

Meanwhile, Lindsay might sign on with a significantly lower figure than her $7 million asking price, meaning we might be forced to sit through a Stuff by Hilary Duff licensing deal rip off while she makes up for lost cash.
