When you run your own blog, it's even easier to plant items in your favor than, say, calling up Page Six. So kudos to Greta Van Susteren for capitalizing on that strategy this morning — by semi-jokingly nominating herself for Brit Hume's 6pm timeslot. CONTINUED »

Are we the only one to connect the dots between reports that Mike Huckabee is angling for his own show on Fox News and news that Brit Hume will leave his Special Report 6pm show after the November election?

Brit Hume will step down from his Special Report evening newscaster role at Fox News after the November election, reports TV Decoder in this obiturary-esque report. He will, however, remain at the network in some capacity. Perhaps he'll use the opportunity to make the official transition from hard news anchor to opinionated pundit.
David Carr on the state of cable news' election coverage: "Oddly, given its operational penchants, the only cable network to play the coverage relatively straight is Fox News. She was middle-age, white, and clearly entranced, and she inspired a snarling little tribute from Hume about the power of emotion in campaigns.
"American politics needs people like this," Hume said. "She's not just for Obama. She's enchanted by Obama. She hangs on his every word. . . . Someone who thought enough of Barack Obama to be absolutely rhapsodic about him. Wonderful stuff."
Funny, because to the best of our recollection, Hume is great at pointing out the worst in situations. CONTINUED »
How do moderators for presidential debates get picked? MSNBC has used official Bush-hater Keith Olbermann and Fox News used unofficial Bush lover Brit Hume for the Democratic and Republican debates they hosted. For Tuesday’s debate, MSNBC went with neutral guys, Brian Williams and Tim Russert. What does it take to be assigned to ask Dennis Kucinich about alien sightings anyway?
