"It's not clear who ended the relationship; Jane claims that it was a mutual breakup, though she admits 'there were resentments on both sides.'… 'I can't say I was thrilled with what happened to Jane after I left,' she says, adding that she 'pissed' that new editor Brandon Holley wanted to make it 'pretty.'" Brandon Holley, former editor of Jane and job candidate with likely zero Internet experience, takes a leadership role at Yahoo, handling their "food, health, astrology, tech and green editorial content." She'll also be responsible for overseeing new launches. [MW]

In Fact, It's Kinda Like Comparing Apples And Oranges Articles About Pear-Shaped Women

glamour-septcover-sm.JPG

Did you hear? Jane subscribers are now receiving complimentary copies of Glamour in the mail. Naturally, former Jane staffers are handling this unforeseen development with the requisite level of poise, maturity and grace.

Reports Page Six:

FORMER Jane magazine staffers are livid that Conde Nast is sending their one-time readers copies of Glamour now that Jane has bitten the dust. "I want all the Jane readers to just cancel, rather than get Glamour," one ex-staffer griped. "I hope they call and say, 'I don't want this. Give me GQ, anything but this.'

Not sure what the big frickin' deal is? One of many ex-Jane staffers explains!

Domain-name obsessed Atoosa.com proprieter Atoosa Rubenstein once wanted to be Jane Pratt. And now she is, at least in name. She's purchased JanePratt.com and JanePratt.org — but they're gifts for the former Jane editor, who Atoosa wants to live on with a vlog.

Mendes 'Extremely Honored' To Show Off Her Itty, Bitty Titties

eva-mendes-fingesuck.JPG

Have you heard? Jane's folding. Which is extremely sad for everyone (except Jane's original EIC, Jane Pratt, who's rather pleased). And what better way to go out with a bang than by having the Eva Mendes pose topless for the last ever Jane cover, and a pregnant Milla Jovovich show off her giant belly only months before she (promptly) loses all the baby weight with the assistance of an extremely expensive personal trainer?

Eva Mendes, Kate Mara, Joss Stone and pregnant Milla Jovovich are among the stars baring all for a provocative new Jane magazine shoot.

Actress Mendes, who appears topless on thee cover, covering her breasts with pink flowers, admits she was honoured to be asked to appear in what will be Jane's final issue.

She says, "It's such a girl-friendly magazine and I feel completely honoured to be on the cover and just really comfortable in my skin… I worked really hard for my body and I'm really happy with it."

We think Jane's definitely ending on a high note. After all, nothing screams social relevance and post-feminist sass so loudly or clearly as a picture of actress Eva Mendes, with pink carnations hiding her naughty-parts.

janepublisher.jpgThat Jane publisher Carlos Lamadrid even got to run a Publisher's Letter is, perhaps, only slightly less shocking than learning the magazine was meeting its ad page goals before Conde Nast shuttered it. After all, isn't waving around your business achievements to readers who don't give a crap that "ad pages are up more than 20% for the first half of 2007 and we show no signs of cooling down" the territory of Jason Binn? But there he was, in what turned out to be Jane's last issue, touting the achievements of the magazine. Who was he trying to convince? Certainly not readers (see previous sentence). Perhaps advertisers. Or, more worthwhile, Si Newhouse, who's the only fella determining whether one of his magazines is worthy of hitting newsstands again.

This just in from Sirius Radio's PR department:

This week Jane Pratt will do her Jane Radio show live Tuesday, July 10 at 1:00 pm ET, as well as Friday night from 6:00 – 8:00 pm ET. Pratt, founder and former editor-in-chief of Jane magazine, hosts Jane Radio exclusively on SIRIUS Satellite Radio. On Jane Radio Pratt takes calls and has an open dialogue with listeners from around the country. Jane Radio airs on SIRIUS Stars 102.

Can't imagine what they'll be talking about.

Jane magazine is closing down, if our inbox stuffers are to be believed. We're told EIC Brandon Holley was among those who "only just found out" that Conde Nast was shutting things down. At least we'll always have Glamour's dating advice column.

Update: We're told there's "some talk" about continuing the magazine as an online operation, but we all know how that sort of thing goes.

Update 2: "Or not," says a Jane insider, about things continuing online.

Update 3: Radar says the staff learned this morning. Gawker says the ad folks just found out, and everyone has to be out today.

Are they done yet? Well, even if these Jane ad do continue, Jossip's next editor may or may not be quite as obsessed with them. Especially if he/she doesn't have a particular affinity for Zoolander, yoga, keg stands, and Kafka. Or Mark Copyranter's particular brand of misogyny. Anyways, in honor of her last day, we are bringing you (possibly) one last Jane advertisement. Sigh.

While we think it would have been much better if she spoke, like, 10 words of 7 languages and said "biyotch" too much, this one is pretty good. We even hear the Jane staffers sit around and think these up themselves.

Which means we're still waiting for the one that says "She Makes $600 a Week. She Spends $350 a Month on Hair Cuts."

And on the 7th date, I finally bent Jane over my Italian leather sofa. [Copyranter]

Seriously, we don't know about the rest of you ladies out there, but sometimes we feel like Brandon Holley has a camera in our editor's apartment. It's kind of weird. Anyways … the advertisements for Jane continue.

After the "She Reads Kafka, She Knows Every Word to Zoolander" and "She Whitens Her Teeth, She Tells Dirty Jokes," we now have one of the coolest Jane ads yet.

Jane Ad

We don't care if it makes us cliche, we think these ads are brilliant. Brilliant! Is there even any other reason to do yoga if not to perfect your keg stand? Though, if the next ad reads "She Writes a Blog, She Eats Leftover Chinese Food for Breakfast" we might get really freaked out.

(And, um David Zincenko? Could you please tell Copyranter that by calling every girl a slut, it's contributing to his "not getting laid" situation?)

Hearst

Consumer magazines are continuing the attempt to enter the "digital space" and Hearst will not be left behind.

Since Hearst developed their online content, their mags have been on those crappy iVillage sites. The future looks a bit brighter, though, since NBC bought out iVillage — now mags like Cosmopolitan and O, The Oprah Magazine can attmempt to hit the Internet pavement with a little more speed.

“More than 76 million people read our magazines each month and, with the proliferation of digital media, we want our brands and unique editorial perspectives to be available to our consumers wherever and whenever they desire,” said Cathleen P. Black, president, Hearst Magazines.

So far, the only magazines that have been able to hack it online (in our humble opinions) have been New York and Jane. And maybe Forbes. Though we think if the folks at Esquire hired a web editor, their mag's site would have the potential to stop www.suckingsomuch.
