With Rosh Hashanah tonight, Jews across the country will be dipping their apples into honey and celebrating the new year. But for Rabbi Levi Brackman and Sam Jaffe, the fruits of their labor will be bittersweet: the duo wrote a book about using the Torah as a guidebook for financial success, but the only media interested in promoting the book so far are Christian talk radio stations:

Wants to Please Crackers and Matzo Crackers

On Larry King Live last night, after kissing Sarah Palin's ass for a couple minutes and calling her family "gutsy, spirited and real," Bill Clinton said he won't do any campaigning for Barack Obama until the Jewish High Holidays are over. Not because he's an embittered crybaby who's refusing to put his heart and soul into a cause that voted his wife second banana, mind you, but because all the Jews in Florida would be offended were he to do otherwise:

missiles.jpg Some Jews are upset the New York Times-owned classical radio station WQXR refused a 60-second paid commentary placement about "bombings carried out against Israel by the militant Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas." Counters the radio station: The ad doesn't make clear the missiles it's talking about aren't being aimed at any part of the station's listening area. [ Apr 8, 2008 · posted by david · Link · Respond

Read This Feel Good Article

hasid.jpg

Last night we had one of those overly symbolic dreams. We won’t go into details out of respect for our subconscious, but it was about as obvious as your mom is choking you in a dream. We picked that example randomly; our mom has never choked us symbolically or otherwise.

But then we read this article in the New York Times about a Hasidic Jewish principal who has transformed a mostly black and Hispanic middle school in the Bronx. And even though our dream had nothing to do with the public policy in New York City, our hearts warmed.

The principal’s changes to the school are somewhat controversial, but seem to be working. The fact that he’s Hasidic and his students have probably never been to a Bar Mitvah adds that “only in New York” element that New Yorkers can use to justify their exorbitant rent.

Some parents’ initial reaction to his religion was kind of funny. One mother told the Times, “Wow, we’re going to have a Jewish person, what’s going to happen? Are the kids going to have to pay for lunch?”

Get it? Because Jews are known for being cheap. Only in New York could such mild anti-Semitism be funny. A $2000 a month hole in the wall is totally worth it!

non-story saga continues

Here's some math: Slow news day plus badly worded comments about Adolf Hitler equals drama with the Anti-Defamation League. Fortunately, Will Smith took honors P.R. Math, and knows that quickly released statements plus blaming others equals salvaged reputation.

In a statement, Smith said,

It speaks to the dangerous power of an ignorant person with a pen. I am incensed and infuriated to have to respond to such ludicrous misinterpretation. … Adolf Hitler was a vile, heinous vicious killer responsible for one of the greatest acts of evil committed on this planet.

Phew, this guy is against the Holocaust. Maybe it is time to see I Am Legend.

P.S. How did Adolf Hitler come up in an interview with Will Smith anyway?

Memo To Will Smith: Jews Are Kind of Sensitive about the whole Holocaust thing

Our daily attempt to help you seem smart, even if you’re not.

conciliate \kun-SILL-ee-ayt\ verb 1 : to gain (as goodwill) by pleasing acts; 2 : to make compatible : reconcile; 3 : appease

After making vaguely anti-Semitic comments about Hilter's intentions, Will Smith will probably need to do some damage control to conciliate the Jews in Hollywood.

Not A Whole Hell Of A Lot, But Something

christmas-cookies2.jpg

This year instead of making us work, Jossip grand poobah David Hauslaib asked us to write "at least one holiday-related post." Well David, readers, this is it.-raronauer

I should be working today. It’s Christmas Eve, and I have no tree to trim, no last minutes presents to buy and no epiphanies about the greater importance of my actions in the Universe to have.

I’m Jewish, and to me Christmas means nothing. The entire holiday is a bit like I Am Legend. I’m aware something’s happening, that other people are excited, but the production isn’t really marketed at me and I have no interest in participating.

Get Ready To Feel Bad About Buying Challah From The Store

jewish_living.jpg

Good news, Jewish moms! No, Jonathan still hasn’t gotten into medical school. Jewish Living is launching next week.

The bimonthly magazine is aimed at Jewish women aged 25-34 and already has a base rate of 100,000 from newsstands and subscriptions sold to Jewish associations.

Unlike Heeb, which is targeted to the self-hating under 30 set, and the Synagogue newsletter, which is best for laughing at the personal ads, Jewish Living wants to be a non-Waspy version of Martha Stewart Living. Think Passover recipes instead of Easter egg decorating tips.
