Nice day for a shotgun wedding

Life-ruiner Lara Logan secretly wed her defense contractor lover Joe Burkett in a New York ceremony several weeks ago, and we're only hearing about it now because it's not so much a joyous occasion when you already pretty pregnant and he's just left his wife and you've thrown Michael Ware overboard.

Don't bother buying them any wedding gifts either, since Lara can just fill up her new four bedroom house in DC with all those spoils of war souvenirs she took from Iraq. Because customs gave her a free pass for stealing portraits of Saddam instead of signing up for her secret wedding registry.

You should see the collection of gold fillings she keeps in a drawer at home

You guys know Lara Logan: She was that CBS correspondent/former swimsuit model who went to Iraq and inspired a brawl between a CNN reporter and a US defense contractor when they both fell in love with her. She's an inspiration to the children, really.

But now Lara is under fire for taking some souvenirs home from Iraq with her…and not just the baby that the contractor Joe Burkett knocked her up with:

Lara Logan was supposed on be flying high on her professional achievements. Then, while reporting in Baghdad, she slept with CNN's Michael Ware and a defense department contractor named Joe Burkett, the National Enquirer got a hold of the story, and gossip hell broke loose. In the middle of all this, Burkett is trying to divorce his wife Kimberly who, reportedly so distraught over her husband's Iraqi affair, tried killing herself with an overdose of pills. Logan, meanwhile, is still with Burkett, who is the father of her soon to be child, though she too is in the middle of a divorce with husband Jason Siemon. Now, the judge in the Burketts' divorce trial has slapped them with a gag order to try and calm the media frenzy, forbidding either Joe or Kimberly from talking publicly about their proceedings. Which is a shame, because the only way either of them is going to do well by this relationship is not by getting their way in court, but by selling their story to a gossip rag. [FR]

CBS News correspondent, tabloid fodder, and alleged homewrecker Lara Logan finds a sympathetic ear today in Howard Kurtz's column. Plagued by gossip drummed up by the National Enquirer — like how she was dating CNN's Michael Ware in Baghdad for a bit, then moved on to State Department contractor Joe Burkett, who then flew home to tell his wife about it and divorce her — Logan smartly relies on Kurtz to refocus the coverage. Sure, Logan might be a beautiful seductress who tempts men abroad, but she's also damn good at her job and has risked her life to report from Iraq. And also: BABY NEWS! She's preggers with Burkett's kid and is expected to deliver in January.

Kurtz, of course, was on his show Reliable Sources two weekends ago to "ask" whether the Logan gossip was something the media should even be reporting on, conveniently allowing himself to report on the Logan gossip.

With today's article, it's clear he's made up his mind about that quandary.

But that Kurtz's article plays nice with Logan isn't what makes it worth reading — it's that Kurtz makes it a point to, not once, but twice note the fact that Logan did not know she was pregnant until recently. Inteeeeeresting.
