A federal judge did not dismiss the lawsuit against Nancy Grace that accuses the CNN talker of driving a woman to suicide, allowing the case to move forward. You remember the situation: When Melinda Duckett's son went missing, she went on Grace's show only to get grilled by the over-eager host about all the suspicious facts surrounding his disappearance, and then killed herself before the interview aired. CNN and Grace wanted the wrongful death suit dropped because any ruling against them would "severely chill" coverage of missing persons. Maybe. At the very least it might get the hosts of these shows to chill the hell out.

Implausible scenarios

nancygracepregnant.jpg

In November 2007, we published a post titled "Nancy Grace Hospitalized," which reported the CNN Headlines News anchor required emergency medical aid because of complications with her pregnancy.

Since then, the post has been hijacked as a thread for any Grace-related commentary. We've been treated to musings like November's "You have to protect babies from a drunken mother," December's "Maybe those uneducated fools can try to help Nancy Grace try to stay sober, she really truly needs some help," January's "Congratulations, Nancy. I saw the report that you were implanted to get yourself pregnant. Do you know who the two different fathers of the twins are?," and February's "She is so disceitfult to the viewing public, but consistent in her actions and why the city of atanta finally threw her out on her butt years ago."

But the most bizarre note left in the comments has to be one about her contract with CNN requiring her to go to church three times a month.

Nancy To 'Grace' Viewers, Cable Television With Her Rambling, Incoherent Discourse

nancy-grace-fireback.JPG

Nancy Grace and her newborn twins (or "two little sunshines," as Grace wrote on her baby blog) are home and resting comfortably after mother and children endured a harrowing premature labor.

Fortunately for alleged rape victims everywhere (and less fortunately for innocent-until-guilty types accused of maybe-raping them) Grace has announced that she'll be resuming her CNN Headline News anchoring duties on January 7th.

With Grace safely out of harm's way, her children dispassionately suckling at her teat and her banker husband showering all three with love and support, we eagerly look forward to seeing her back on the air. Mainly because it means we now officially go from worrying about the woman's health to mocking her for her crazy politics, irrational views and callous disregard for political correctness.

Times Fashion Critic Cathy Horyn Immediately Praises The Look As 'Extremely Fashion Forward' And Predicts Sea Foam Shirt-Dresses 'Will Be The New Fall Uniform'

Sure, the war in Iraq's still going on, the U.S. military is bringing charges against an award-winning A.P. photographer (whom they've imprisoned, without charges, for the past 19 months) and Nancy Grace and her newborn twins are still in precarious condition after complications from childbirth but, more importantly, Mary-Kate Olsen was hospitalized all morning with a "minor" infection.

Olsen reportedly checked into the emergency room of an NYC hospital this morning with a mild kidney infection and is currently "resting comfortably" and slated to be discharged within the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, she's kept herself busy by not eating the gross hospital, watching Weed reruns – of the episodes she was in – and complaining that the "fugly" (but trendy!) hospital gown "looks like Zac Posen dress" and, even worse, "totally makes [her] look fat."

CNN Headline News anchor Nancy Grace has been hospitalized after complications from her pregnancy. She gave birth to twins last week. After experiencing discomfort en route to church "she was brought to the emergency room in Atlanta. Her doctors found two blood clots in her lungs," says a spokeswoman. [TVN]

Decide They 'Can't Fathom' Another Month Inside A Crazy-Person's Uterus

nancy-grace-preggers-sm.JPG

Nancy Grace, the acerbic tv pundit best known for her stance on "victims rights, despite all hard evidence to the contrary" has given birth to her twins a month ahead of schedule.

The technical reason? "She developed fluid in her lungs and her doctor determined 'it would be best for Nancy, and for the twins' to deliver them ASAP." The more amusing (but less factually accurate) reason? Not even Nancy Grace's unborn children can put up with her incoherent, rambling tirades.

Regardless, we're happy to welcome fraternal twins Lucy Elizabeth and John David into the world. No word yet on which one is "the evil one" yet, but we'll let you know just as soon as we hear which one looks more like his/her mother.

Nancy Grace Is Here To Remind Us That You Don't Fuck With The Crazy Pregnant Chick

It's hot, humid and sort-of cloudy outside. Our air-conditioner's on the fritz, blasting out sporadic puffs of freezing cold air then inexplicably shutting off for an afternoon nap. We tried drinking a Red Bull to perk up but it turns out without vodka mixed in, it kinda tastes like crap. Which means it's time for today's Cable Quotables! This time, Intern Wendy easily ties everything with a unifying factor, saying simply "Nancy Grace's pregnancy is the best gift Jossip ever had." Well, not counting the shower-radio.

• "I don't know about you, but every time I go for a drive, I always take my mallet. Got to have a mallet. Definitely need a carload of diapers, some of them soiled, in the back seat. And where would any of us be without our trusty buck knife? Got to have on of these, much less got to have a BB gun. Got to have a BB gun for a long drive." Nancy Grace, on what road trips will be like for her twins, road trip, Nancy Grace, August 24

• "Me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, it`s all about me.” Nancy Grace, stating the obvious, Nancy Grace, August 24

Nancy Grace Loses (Even More Of) Her Marbles

"Nancy Grace's pregnancy has been the gift that keeps on giving," writes Intern Wendy. "Because of that, I faced the hardest decision I've had since the column started: What could I possibly add to her insane rantings about breasts, pole dancing, and kiddie vitamins?"

The answer?

"Nothing. Absolutely nothing. So here they are, from her August 9 show about Britney Spears, without comment."

Nancy Grace's unfiltered, crazy-person ramblings, after the jump.

Nancy Grace and CNN want a judge to dismiss the wrongful death lawsuit brought by the family of Melinda Duckett, the woman who killed herself after Nancy grilled her on the show about the woman's missing son.

After all, there's no guilt to be had for nearly labeling a grieving mother a murderer when it happens during the course of an interview. [AP]

Harry Potter Hoping That 'Spoiler' Ending Has Something To Do With His Getting Contacts

harry-potter-ladyfriend-sm.JPG

• Some say there are already signs that Harry Potter's spell may be breaking.

• However, those people obviously have never been invited over to J.K. Rowling's Rhode Island sized mansion or met any of the (record-setting) 1.6 million people who've already pre-ordered her next book on Amazon.

• Bronx man gets busted trying to bootleg Transformers. Tries, fails to convince police his camcorder was just a "robot in disguise."

• In addition to surprising us with a secret husband and unborn child, Nancy Grace shocks us by reminding us that lots of people enjoy tuning in to watch her rant uncontrollably.

• Carnivorous chain smoker Josh May experiences life as a treehugger. Hilarity ensues.

NYT finally catches on to trend of desperate, attention seeking has-been using reality tv shows as a springboard to "so, that's what happened to them" fame.

Nancy Grace didn't seem to have any problem telling the New York Post about her secret marriage and her secret pregnancy (she's carrying twins), even though she hasn't even told her CNN bosses. Her viewers are scheduled to find out tonight, unless they're the type that follow her personal life incessantly — or, you know, read the Post.

Her pregnancy explains why she walked away from her Court TV gig, when they sliced her timeslot down from two hours to one. It does not, however, explain why she continues to be a raging maniac on her CNN Headline News program. Aren't expecting mothers supposed to have a natural glow?

If Someone Made A Movie About Laura Albert, It'd Be Like Being John Malkovich Only Much Weirder

jt-leroy-singing.JPG

• Laura Albert didn't invent the pseudonym "JT LeRoy" because she was trying to defraud her readers, the publishing company or the film production company that bought the movie rights. She did it because she's really, really crazy.

• Chris Matthews blames his exec producer for that awkward 10-second outburst Tuesday night.

• If Jack Shafer has anything to say about it, no one will get a free iPod mini this year. Or ever again.

• What would Nancy Grace, the overzealous victims' rights activist have to say about Nancy Grace, the crazy lady who yells at people on the brink of suicide?

NYT is raising its newstand price for the first time since 1999, meaning it will now cost you $4 to completely bomb the Sunday crossword puzzle.

It's too bad Saturday Night Live is in its off-season, as Amy Poehler would've had plenty of fodder for another Nancy Grace segment. The CNN Headline News anchor (the real one) is facing the reality of a wrongful death lawsuit, as a court has allowed the case brought by the family of Melinda Duckett to proceed.

Duckett was a guest on Grace's show in September, where she was grilled about the disappearance of her two-year-old son. Before the network even got around to airing the pre-taped interview, Duckett killed herself. Nevermind that Duckett remains the prime suspect in the disappearance of her child.

Along with Grace, CNN itself is named as a defendant, forcing the network to explain why a news organization would volunteer to play such a harmful role in society — one that involves asking questions of people who might not want to answer them.

Candy Spelling To Fix Our Country One Troubled Rich Girl At A Time

Intern Wendy knows what she likes, and what she likes is Nancy Grace. (Or was that "likes to hate?") Regardless, we bring you this extra special Wednesday edition of Cable Quotables, which Wendy sums up as follows: "liberal women with boob jobs ain't no ladies, work as strippers, eat Hogzillas, and get parental guidance from Candy Spelling."

Which is both funny, and true!

• "As I understand it, the boy who shot the Hogzilla there, his father says he's going to make sausage from it and plans to make something like 700 links. I'm a little worried it would be king of tough, though. I mean, an animal that big, I think the meat's a little old." Erica Hill, who likes her meat young and tender, Anderson Cooper 360, May 25

• "Why are women expected to act lady-like? Why do we have to be lady-like to be accepted?" Nancy Grace, defending redneck women everywhere, Nancy Grace, May 25

• "How are you getting Christian mixed in with big-breasted conservative?" Nancy Grace, presenting her "All Women With Boob Jobs Are Liberals" theory, Nancy Grace, May 25

• "Strippers are people, too!" Joe Scarborough, demanding respect for our nation's pole dancers, Morning Joe, May 29

• "I'm just looking forward to hearing what Candy Spelling has to say about it." Susan Moss, on the upside to Lindsay Lohan's being arrested, Nancy Grace, May 29

Even the type of attention that ridicules her appearance, career, and entire purpose in life

nancygrace4.jpg

It's one thing to be given your own show on CNN Headline News, and become successful enough that you don't "need" an hour to talk about yourself on Court TV. But it's another thing entirely to find yourself on Saturday Night Live, being parodied par excellence by one of the show's remaining talents.

Atoosa Rubenstein got the treatment. And so has Nancy Grace, with Amy Poehler delivering those "mmm-kays" and "missing white girls" like the real thing. So how does the Nance feel about it? Mediabistro asks:

What do you think of Amy Poehler's impersonations of you on Saturday Night Live? Have you ever spoken to her?
I haven't spoken to her, but I was totally flattered. It was a big day in my life when I made it into their Prince segment. I actually scared Prince. I'm a huge Prince fan so that was a big moment for me.

You've also been parodied on the soap Passions with a character named Grace Nancier and someone else played a character based on you on Boston Legal. What gives?
I understand I got hit in the head with a shovel (on Boston Legal) but then I appeared on TV with a huge bandage on my head — like a vampire. I'm flattered.

Keep in mind, Nancy appears alongside Star Jones in the May 22 finale of Law & Order: SVU, so there's still plenty of opportunities for other rusty toolshed delights to be levied her way. Not that we encourage that sort of thing.

Three days ago, the Chicago Sun Times scared the living bejesus out of us by whispering that "Nancy Grace reportedly wants to replace Rosie O'Donnell on The View." Thankfully, after a sleepless weekend, ABC is now this-close to officially calling "bullshit."

"I hear a new (rumor) every day, but there's no truth to any of it," a spokesman tells the Macon Telegraph. "There's been no decision (on O'Donnell's replacement), there's no announcement upcoming."

Also: "Grace's representatives declined to comment on the record, dismissing the talk as just a rumor…."

And so, Nancy Grace's fantasy job remains but a pipe dream. But chin up, Nancy! One day, we're sure you'll find another environment equally well-suited toward blathering, estrogen-fueled, opinionated (yet ill-informed) rants.

Cha-cha-ciao, Nancy Grace. The CNN Headline News anchor is severing ties to Court TV, which put her on the map as a TV personality. (Thanks for nothing, Steve Brill!)

After 10 years of service, she's done with Closing Arguments, which of course has nothing to do with the fact that Court TV slashed the show from two hours to one after they inked a deal with Star Jones.

Grace's exit, of course, arrives just after Catherine Crier was axed and in the midst of the network's repositioning itself to focus on reality-based action shows. Oh, and their ditching of the whole "Court TV" name.

And just when they're launching The Room, a show about police interrogations, which Nancy would have had oodles to gab about.

Reading up on Nancy Grace in the Delaware News-Journal provides the fodder you'd expect from a quick sitdown with the CNN Headline News anchor: even when she's talking about someone else, she's talking about herself.

But it's the last part of the article that managed to catch our attention. The part where she responds – or, rather, doesn't respond – to Keith Olbermann's claims, in a Rolling Stone interview last month, that she exaggerated the circumstances of her husband's death for a more sensational tale.

Like many of you, we love nothing more than good ol' media catfight (like that girl-on-girl kerfuffle at the Times!) Which is why we're enjoying this little gem Intern Wendy dug up, in which Fox 411 columnist Roger Friedman takes a potshot at resident nutjob, Nancy Grace. As Friedman writes:

And then crazy ol' Nancy Grace borrowed our story last night on CNN Headline News. She managed to take everything we'd reported and mix it up in a Cuisinart until several people were all talking at once and making no sense.

And while we empathize with Friedman, we're forced to wonder: how was last night different from every other night?
