People

After a somewhat significant failure of his Office Pirates launch, the site's founding editor Mark Golin has been re-shuffled within Time Inc. Today, People.com announced that Golin will join the site, earning the highly prestigious title of "editor." He will work right along side Martha Nelson (People Group editor) to "oversee online editorial operations and site development."

Golin has a pretty packed resume, which includes a mix of both magazine and Web experience. And, no, not all of those publications had the same fate as Office Pirates.

But Golin made his real mark in magazines. After a decade at Rodale, he moved to Hearst Magazines' Cosmopolitan as deputy editor. In 1998, he became the editor in chief of Dennis Publishing's Maxim, where he led the U.S. laddie invasion with his sharp wit. He also was editor in chief of Condé Nast's Details.

He joins another former mag EIC, Angela Matusik (the second to occupy now defunct Budget Living's top spot) on the site's masthead. And if we wait just a few more months, maybe someone there will be able to secure Ariel Foxman a job.

Office Pirates

Due to dropping traffic and general lack of interest, Time Inc. is shutting down their attempt to reach young male audiences without putting girls in bikinis. The site's EIC, Mark Golin, lead the sinking ship with the jabbing content that made fun of office culture and politics. And though it was a bit funny at first, Steve Carell is funnier in The Office and ShockU had more engaging videos.

It lagged behind other blogs and sites aimed at the young-adult-trapped-in-a-cube audience, with a traffic ranking of 19,767. But, according to Keith Kelly, that's not the worst of it.

To make matters worse, it was even lagging behind other Time Inc. magazine Web sites such as Time.com, which was ranked at 1,196 yesterday, or the enormously popular Sports Illustrated site, SI.com, ranked at a pumped-up No. 28.

We actually have no idea why falling behind Sport Illustrated's site is so much worse that falling behind, say, Wonkette, but … apparently it is. Office Pirates closes up shop on Sept. 1, so go forth. Soak up all your lunchtime, intern, and bulletin board humor while you can. And don't forget the eyepatch.

Vibe Janet Jackson

• You've seen the photos of Lindsay Lohan boxing — now, watch the video. It's her most Oscar-worthy performance yet. [Google via Mollygood]

• Now we know why the Vanity Fair folks don't really talk to the New Yorker staffers. Seriously? The editors walk on their hands? Or is this some nerd genius humor we don't really get? [Double Think via Romenesko]

Elizabeth Spiers comments that Jesse Oxfeld was "not a good fit for Gawker." And the chart accompanying her statement really drives that point home. [NYO]

Paris Hilton tells British GQ she's slept with two people. Maybe she just thinks the double zeros at the end of that number don't count? [MSNBC, Pretty in the City]

• How ever are we going to live without the pointless existence of Office Pirates? [Mediaweek]

• For the 2% of the world who haven't seen Janet Jackson almost topless on the cover of a magazine … here ya go. God, Vibe is almost as desperate as she is. [AP]

Stupid Videos

Is YouTube not giving you your fix of stupid videos? Well, leave it to Fox to bring you more stupid crap than you could ever want. Their spankin' new site, aptly titled Stupidvideos.com, is generating a minimal amount of buzz and has quite a drab looking website. However, SV is standing by its claim that its really stupid content is really, really great.

“Stupidvideos.com consistently provides great content that resonates with young people and we are thrilled to have them as our partner,” said Duncan Macdonald, SVP of Promotions at Fox Atomic.

The site's main competition will obviously be YouTube, which, though often quite ridiculous, carries news content and video content relevant to consumers outside the 17-year-old boy bracket. And of course Office Pirates, which amazingly enough, is still on track. We've pulled a really stupid video from each, and are going to let you decide: Which Video Would You Waist More of Your Stupid Time On?

This stupid Office Pirates video of a bunch of old guys getting off or this asshole waking up his mom. (Warning, both actually take up a shitload of time to watch.) We'll let you vote after the jump …but considering it took us about an hour to watch these 2 second video clips, we're going to stick with YouTube.

Today on Office Pirates, we learn that a guy named Chris from Bellvue, Washington has been ripping off the site and re-posting the content found on Office Pirates — including jokes, lists, and photos — on his own blog.

Office Pirates

Hello? is right. If you're going to steal content, at least steal from something smart. Or funny. Or interesting. Or relevant. Then again, if he was stealing from a site people actually read, the public would have likely caught on a lot faster.

Hello, Chris of Bellevue, Washington! [Office Pirates]

Shock U

Because we don't think they really work hard enough (school, jobs, internships … come on) we asked our interns Zack and Calista to waste some time browsing the geared-for-college-student sites Shock U and Office Pirates.

And while normally, we would have asked for a comparative essay, we then realized we would have to edit it. And we're trying to do as little work as possible. Hello that's why we have interns in the first place.

Read on after the jump to see what the hip, with it, barely 20-something kids are up to these days. If you need us we'll be at American Apparel trying to figure out how to smuggle a couple guns and find some hos to pimp. Ok, fine, we'll be shopping for leggings.

Office Pirates

The only thing we miss out on by not working in an office is the off-color office jokes. But those of you who have to shower, get dressed, and leave your apartment five days a week might understand, and enjoy, the post-collegiate humor from officepirates.com.

While we don't really get it, but some of our favorite bits include "Kill Me," from the 10 second theater, a hate nook for hating on things, and what office people eat for lunch. (Somebody's reading Bonnie's book!)

We thought we might at least relate to the blog section, Blah Blah Blog, which introduces the site. But, all it really did was apologize for itself.

Sure, the site is a little light on content right now, but we believe it was already mentioned that IT’S WEEK FUCKING ONE HERE! Lighten up. LOL!!!!!! Just kidding

.

Look for lots of FUCKING, kill me signs, LOL!!!, dudes in collared shirts and ties, and girls in bras. We just can't wait to discover what other awesome aspects of cubicle life we're missing out on.
