Page Six gossip Paula Froelich wrote a book. Ex-colleague Jared Paul Stern writes for a blog. And retired Gatecrasher and current Star television face Ben Widdicombe is probably scribbling something between two hardcovers right about now. But former Rush & Molloy stringer Patrick Huguenin? He's gone and wrote himself a play. It's called Paper Dolls, opens tomorrow at the NYC Fringe Festival, and centers around a one Claire Cunningham, a the gossip columnist conceit who "once cried her way onto a plane to spy on Madonna." And there is scandal! Worse than anything Hud Morgan did on Daily News reality show Tabloid Wars! [Paper Dolls]

When Ben Widdicombe sprung his departure from the New York Daily News on his bosses last month (well, he did quietly give two weeks notice), the paper found itself with quite the dilemma: Without Widdicombe's Gatecrasher, it had a single daily gossip column, Rush & Molloy. Indeed, former junior gossip Jo Piazza began penning the weekend-only Full Disclosure, but we hear the News still wants more gossip-centric fare.
So when Krissy Mac, who'd been penning a column about celebrity tabloids for the past two years, announced her exit, there was a rush to fill the void.
Enter Patrick Huguenin, the former R&M stringer. He'll be taking over the Friday space, beginning tomorrow. Huguenin's sheet will be called "Newsstand Junkie," and, if he can get his copy through editors without too many changes, it might just read like the witty fella he is.
Ever wondered what it was like to attend a fancy-schmancy book party thrown in honor of Sudanese supermodel, Alek Wek? Well, yesterday we decided to crash Wek's downtown bash at Socialista to find out what happens when 300 or so fashion snobs stop being polite…and start getting real ridiculously drunk on Mojitos.
And we weren't the least bit disappointed. While we explored the cramped two-floor event space and downed champagne in a sincere—and selfless!—effort at fitting in, we spied on various washed-up reality stars and ran into our old friend Patrick Huguenin from the NYDN (whom, we're told, "screeched with joy" at Diane von Furstenberg's arrival) as well as the lovely Jennifer Barton (a newbie associate editor for Fashion Week Daily) who shamed/intimidated us with her tres chic accessories such as a "working tape recorder," "ballpoint pen" and "standard reporter's notebook."
Fortunately, we were able to flag down just enough mango margaritas to keep from blowing our cover, and even managed to jot down a few astute observations. Our fuzzy, morning-after recollections, after the jump.

First Cristina Kinon decamped for TV writer Richard Huff's wings, and now Patrick Huguenin is also taking off for another Daily News wing: features, where he'll be a staff writer. (He also appears to be taking over the "Perfect Ten" column from new New York staffer Chris Rovzar, so send those pitches!) In Huguenin's wake is newcomer Sean Evans, who we hear is quite the ladies man.
In some bizarre "fate of the universe" logic exercise, we're going to assume the slight pay raise he'll receive will somehow make up for the axing of boyfriend Chris Ciompi from the top gig at Genre.
