In early 2005, the nation was shocked by the official revelation, after months of tabloid covers suggesting it, that Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt were splitting up. Of course, the official announcement came long after the couple made the decision to break up — and, stupidly, after the Christmas holiday when nobody cares about the news — but just in time for beacon of journalism Us Weekly to sic reporters Mara Reinstein and Joey Bartolomeo on the couple and, in five days, spit out a 40,000-word (large type) print book. An amazing feat of (ripped off?) reporting and celebrity news spin, to be sure.

And now, People is ready to carry on the tradition of rush publishing.

Paul Newman Dies at 83, World Gets a Lot Less Sexy

By now most of you already heard the sad news about Paul Newman's passing. Between so many retrospectives and personal memory pieces that journalists like to tackle whenever a star passes, it's hard to say something that hasn't already been said more eloquently from others.

So let's keep it brief: Paul Newman was one of the sexiest guys alive in his prime, and with his departure, like with Brando's and Ledger's, we lose not only a phenomenal actor, but a fine piece of ass as well.

Take off your hat and turn down your iPod in respect while watching Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, the quintessential Newman feature which captures the smoky masculinity of this great man even as he struggles to break out of the Hollywood stereotype of "the stud."

Paul Newman: Stay Classy

Paul Newman, who the National Enquirer says has six months left to live after battling lung cancer, might be the last decent guy in Tinseltown. Perhaps understanding that he's on his way out, he's taken his entire stake in salad dressing and cookie company Newman’s Own … and given it to charity. All $120 million worth. Newman is no stranger to giving away heaps of cash to the deserving: He's long supported a wide range of under-the-radar causes, while supporting his own international Hole in the Wall Gang organization. All of which most major news outlets have already written up in their prepared obits.
