Paging Number 9

Former New York governor Eliot Spitzer paid for Ashley Dupre to give him a couple hummers and pretend it was love, but much like former president Bill Clinton, his professional indiscretion's only punishment is via humiliation.

It would have been glorious to see Spitzer get sentenced through his own extreme anti-prostitution legislation, but it was not to be. Though Spitzer was seen as a "co-conspirator" of the Emperor's Club where he took his pleasures, he will not be charged.

The club's owners, Brener and Cecil "Katie" Suwal, along with two prostitutes bookers, Tanya Hollander and Temeka Lewis, plead guilty and will be sentenced. Spitzer however, worked with the prosecutors and will walk a free man.

Just goes to show: Even when you're not above public recrimination, you are still above the law.

Oh Internet, My Internet

Craigslist, that giant bulletin board of missed connections, apartments for rent, and drugs (if you know where to look) is taking measures to decrease the number of prostitution services on their site. The site will now charge to place ads in the erotic services section (which they couldn't just get rid of, if they were so worried?) to get the credit card information and phone numbers of people placing the ads. So far, that's dettered the sexy opportunists and ad placement has decreased by 80% as all those "sexy massage parlors" try to keep their numbers unlisted.

So from now on, only people who offer to have sex with random strangers have to do it for free, and be legit, i.e. in the name of filling up that empty void in their life that a hundred cats can't fill.

A Hollywood madame not named Heidi Fleiss accidentally hit "reply all" when responding to a john, alerting her entire email list to her client roster. "The list includes a well-known movie producer, prominent club owners, restaurateurs, real estate tycoons, a politician, a sex tape king, an owner of a major sports team and a Prince." The technological deficient whore ringleader is v. v. sorry about her mistake, but also, she's got a girl for $2,500. You want? [Scandalist]

Headaches of running a small business

callgirlmovie.jpg The New York-based international prostitution ring that was busted yesterday has the type of billable hours a high-powered law firm would kill for. One man and three women were arrested in a sting that shut down Emperors Club VIP, which claimed to introduce clients to models. Really, really expensive models. "Court documents unsealed yesterday said Emperors Club involved 50 prostitutes who billed between $1,000 and $5,500 an hour," reports the Sun. But just because they were charging those fees doesn't mean they were raking in the cash: Conversations intercepted by authorities reveal the callgirls often had trouble getting an imprint of clients' American Express cards in order to charge them. And what were they supposed to tell clients when they called in asking how to explain the charges to their accountants?

News surrounding alt-weeklies continues to be more interesting than any news inside of them

weeklyorlando.jpg

The Phoenix New Times is not the only free paper having some trouble with the po-po of late.

Three ad reps for the Orlando Weekly were arrested on Friday for taking advertisements from cops posing as prostitutes. The arrest was the culmination of a two-year sting operation by the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation. Yes, it took two years for the cops to prove that alt-weeklies take ads from "masseuses."

The Orlando Weekly ad reps should have been a bit more suspicious when "prostitutes" approached them about ad space. Real hookers use Craigslist.

Some Callgirls Are Apparently Far Too Classy To Meet Their Clients Through Craigslist

Ever wondered about the veritable mountains of fan mail a Jossip editor typically receives in a day? Sure, we’ve all got our own fair share of admirers (especially Intern Joe!) but as it turns out, not everyone has been drinking the Kool Aid as of late.

Now, ordinarily, we’d respect the privacy of our tipsters, but since some of our respondents have expressed an ardent desire to be heard, we’ve decided to once again indulge your implicit curiosity by excerpting a representative sample from today’s giant mailbag of crazy.

Today the New York Times reports that people use the Internet for sex. And not just for sex with themselves, sex with prostitutes. To be fair, the Times did break that whole wiretapping story.

Readers of Confessions of a College Call Girl already know the fun part of using the Internet to for such business purposes—the occasional crush, weird clients and her sex rules—but apparently digital cruising is illegal. And not every prostitute is as clever and self-supporting as college call girl. Some still use pimps online. The Times reports one was such digital pimp was arrested in August for “managing the technology of it.”
