It's been a while since we checked in with Jon Friedman. Okay, the last time was on Halloween, but still — just because he checks in with MarketWatch.com everyday doesn't mean we do.
Today's he's touting the prowess of Runner's World, a magazine you've never seen past the cover unless mile pace and proper stretching appeal to you more than Jimmy Choos and DVF wraps.
At a time when editors and publishers from Boston to San Francisco are sitting around their offices and bemoaning the state of advertising revenue, this magazine is shaking up its presentation. And while publishing hotshots wring their hands and recycle the same tired formulas for stories and layouts, these folks aspire to be adventurous and give the readers something fresh.

Something fresh, indeed. Just look at how far things have come: They put women on the cover now — and they don't even have to be running!
UPDATE: Yeah, so uh, we didn't exactly have the current issue of Runner's World. Thankfully, the folks at Rodale are either regular Jossip readers or pay way too much attention to their Google News Alerts and sent us the actual cover.

And let the record show, it's still a woman, not running.
