An Open Letter to Ellen

Ellen DeGeneres, she of the popular TV show and tolerable lesbianism, was outed as a member of the gay media who has not given money to a group trying to bring down Proposition 8, the bill to stymie a homosexual couple's right to marry.

Fran Drescher Wants to Be Even More Beloved By the Gays
Giving back to the only community that will have her

The Jewish Rosie Perez, Fran Drescher, hosts a party tonight to help keep gay marriage in California legal. Drescher, who surprisingly hasn't turned out that many drag queen lookalikes, will join ex-husband Peter Marc Jacobson to support Equities California's fight against Proposition 8, which wants to take away homos' right to scream at each other in front of the kids that Cali gays just received.

The fifty-something Drescher has flirted with causes before, most notably a cancer treatment advocacy group, started after the actress was diagnosed with the disease back in 2002. But even though she has no personal stake in gay rights (unless the Nanny is lining up to be the next shrill-voiced Samantha Ronson), Fran has been outspoken as always for the case for same-sex marriage, "…It's simply un-American not to be tolerant of different lifestyles. If you wanna live in a single-minded, religious-based country you're in the wrong place."

Nice idea, especially the part about celebrating the right to marry by throwing a bash with your ex-husband. Since gays should have the right to divorce, too.
