Might the baby on the way for the New York Observer's Spencer Morgan, with girlfriend Alexis Bryan, of Vanity Fair, explain the party boy's suddenly sober ways? We hear Morgan has been laying off most liquid and powder substances of late, favoring a strict, no-nonsense means of socializing. Some might attribute the healthier lifestyle to him training to be a good dad; others say Bryan has him whipped.

We've never had any particular inclination to crash a NYO bash. Primarily because we always envisioned their ho-hum gatherings as being garish salmon-themed affairs, involving a sherry-toting Jared Kushner, a martini-guzzling Spencer Morgan and impromptu political debates with cerebral media mensch Michael Calderone.

But that, of course, was before we knew about the illegal escorts. [P6]

Not only did this morning's Page Six misidentify Observer party boy Spencer Morgan's girlfriend – she's Alexis Bryan (daughter of Anna Wintour beau Shelby), not Alexis Stewart (daughter of Martha) – but it also repeated a June item, which also happened to spot Maxim deputy editor Chris Wilson and Spencer belting out karaoke at Sing Sing.

There are two on-the-scene types whose party report filings we dutifully read. The first is every-position-ever-cum-Forbes-scribe James Brady. The second is the Observer's Spencer Morgan, who took off to L.A. (joining nearly every other New York gossip) for an all-out Oscar sock hop. From the Independent Spirit Awards bash at Shutters and the BlackBook party to Entertainment Weekly's Al Gore lovefest and, of course, Graydon Carter's Vanity Fair event, there was lots to cover.

So how come the only thing we can focus on is what Tinsley Mortimer said?
