Keeping it in the family

Farrah Fawcett is going to be pissed: Her ex-Love Story lover Ryan O'Neal was arrested this morning, along with their 23-year old son Redmond, with narcotics believed to be amphetamines. Redmond had been living with his father after a previous drug misdemeanor charger in 2006, the conditions of which allowed cops to enter the premises at any time and make a sweep for possible substances. Ryan's daughter and Redmond's half-sister, Tatum O'Neal, got busted earlier this year trying to buy drugs on a street corner in NYC.

You have to imagine family reunions for these people involve some sort of weird Brady Bunch/Jerry Springer shenanigans, with a sprinkle of meth-induced paranoia. Hopefully Celebrity Rehab is still casting for the second season, so we can watch the O'Neal patriarch go head-to-head with Gary Busey.

"Tatum O'Neal pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct on Wednesday after trying to buy crack cocaine last month. The actress, 44, was ordered to spend two half-day sessions in a drug treatment program and pay a $95 surcharge, the Associated Press reports.
If she meets those conditions when she returns to court September 4, her case will be dismissed." [Us]

The Post is in quite a sympathetic mood with Tatum O'Neal this morning. First at bat is Andrea Peyser, who would normally take so much glee in kicking somebody while she's down. But not this Oscar-winning actress.

Somehow O'Neal's camp arranged for a softball piece with Peyser, which explains why she was at the top of the list of phone calls to make after getting sprung from the clink. Why Peyser? "She called me to explain herself," writes the columnist. "Also, because she liked my columns slamming another discarded wife, Dina Matos McGreevey." O'Neal retells her crack/coke arrest tale, but also!, how she wants to help the guy who sold her the goods.

Well isn't this the feel good story you were looking for to take your mind off last week's tragic crane collapse?

Tatum O'Neal – who won an Academy Award at age 10 for Paper Moon, though the Oscars would probably like you to not include its trademark while mentioning this story – was arrested yesterday after being spotted buying crack on the Lower East Side, nearby her apartment.

When police nabbed her, she insisted she was just researching an acting role. Then they found a baggie of crack, a baggie of coke, and a crack pipe on her. And so she tried this line: "I've been clean for a long time. Today was the first time I was relapsing, but you guys saved me! Can you let me go?" [NYDN]

They did not. She was booked on charges of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

And yes, it was just eight months ago that she told Britney Spears to seek "recovery and get her disease of addiction together."
