As for the music: I expect an artist's control of his work's use depends upon the licensing terms that he arranges in advance with the licensing agent. Unless the RNC was really so dumb as to not license its use of "Running on Empty", I interpret Browne's suit as his attempt to control use of his work beyond that which the licensing terms allowed.

Funny that the artists on the "left" that are associated with Hollywood and all the celebrities and musicians that go along with it SAY they are for free speech…that they and their work and the ideals expressed within represent the hopes and dreams of ALL Americans…but come election time they suddenly say "Oh, my movie/song/whatever didn't include you UNLESS you subscribe to my personal political beliefs. Oh, but once the election is over…and ideally my guy won…THEN we're back to my movies/songs/whatever being about all of us because I want to sucker you right back in. More importantly, I want my royalties and whatever other money I can get out of you to remain rich and famous."

"Boycott" "enlightened" musicians? What on earth? Huh? When you write a song and have it copyrighted, legally, that song is your property, and its use is legally regulated. Thus, if a politician you disagree with or don't like–and everyone has the right to disagree or dislike a politician in the United States of America–then you have the right to properly ask that politician not to use your song. That's called copyright law. It has literally nothing–zero–to do with being "englightened," or whatever. It is your right as a copyright holder, as an artist, as a musician, and as a songwriter. It's also called simple common sense.
