Elizabeth Kate Claman (perferred name:Liz) on December 12,1963 in Beverly Hills,California
to the Canadian Parents of Her mother June Claman is a Film & Actress, & her father Dr. Morris Claman is a urologist in private practice there and an associate clinical professor of urology at the University of California at Los Angeles School of Medicine.
She the sister of a oldest sister Danielle is an executive for CBS Corp's Showtime, another older sister is a Hollywood studio musician,and her younger brother is also a musician.
For her early education Claman went to Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts (for one summer), where she was a disc jockey for the school radio station, WPAA, and to Beverly Hills High School.
After a brief stint at UC Santa Cruz, Claman transferred to UC Berkeley where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in French language. She also has a Certificat Supérieur de Français from the Sorbonne.
Described by Vanity Fair (November 2008) as "..one of television's top business reporters and anchors," and referred to by smitten bloggers as "The Red Fox," Claman got her start in television as a production assistant for Paula Zahn and Jim Lampley at Los Angeles television station KCBS-TV. She is appearing from 2-5 PM ET where for the latter two hours of the time slot she will compete against CNBC anchor Maria Bartiromo. ran the wholesale grocery business L.W. Roark and Company near the railroad tracks on Main Street for years. McDowell said her grandfather ran the store and the whole family worked in it. McDowell's grandfather, Manley "Bud" Holt, was also the mayor of Brookneal at one point, she said. Her grandmother's name was Bessie Holt. Her paternal grandparents were Charles, Jr. and Lib McDowell. Each set of her grandparents grew up in Brookneal, along with several generations.

McDowell attended William Campbell and graduated from a boarding school in Richmond, Saint Catherine's School.
After she graduated from Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, NC with a degree in art history, McDowell said it was time for a change in her life.
"Right after college, I literally packed my bags and moved to Colorado for two years and lived out there doing a bunch of different things," she said. "I wanted to live out west and live where I wasn't on the east coast; I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, it was lovely."
After two years, McDowell literally drove back east and moved to New York City.
"I knew I could find a job there that I liked."
When she moved to New York in 1994, she worked for the Institutional Investor's newsletter division for three and a half years, as a personal finance writer and columnist for TheStreet.com and wrote for SmartMoney magazine for a year.
