Who deserves an effigy more than Kate Moss?
 


Approximately 3 million dollars worth of shiny gold was melted to created Siren, the memorial statue to Kate Moss that was unveiled today in Nereid Gallery of the British Museum. The product of Mark Quinn, the statue is his second tribute to Moss, and probably weighs 100x more than the waifish model herself.

As though flying in the face of economic meltdown, the statue is reportedly the largest of its kind since the ancient Egyptians. Although Siren will be the biggest and most expensive, there are a number of weirder golden calves popping up recently:

 
Solid Gold Enema: 800 lbs. and located outside a health spa in Russia, the statue resembles a beet but is actually a giant butt douche being held aloft by three angels.
Golden Bruce Lee: Located in Bosnia, this statue of the kung fu master is a cultural peace keeper in the war-torn nation. As one Bosnian remarked at the statue's unveiling,"This does not mean that Bruce Lee will unite us, because people are different and cannot be united and we will always be Muslims, Serbs or Croats, but one thing we all have in common is Bruce Lee."

ESPN's commissioned basketball statue: Tyler Hansbrough plays basketball for North Carolina, but that doesn't explain why ESPN has contracted a 10 ft. tall golden statue of the kid to be erected in the network's studio. ESPN sources are thrilled, “This statue will be great. The base will be solid gold, but there will be diamonds in there as well. His eyes will be the traditional clear diamonds, but his uniform will be made out of thousands of light blue diamonds.”
