That Katie Couric’s troubles have erupted yet again over the past two weeks is no surprise to television news insiders.
First there was Gail Shister’s bomb in the Philadelphia Inquirier, where Katie’s future at the helm of the CBS Evening News was vehemently questioned — and undermined by anonymous CBS insiders. Then Roger Friedman went and fingered Bob Scheiffer and Leslie Stahl as the sources behind Gail’s item, citing their disdain for the anchor.
So why is the insider hatchet job going down yet again?
Because that Katie Couric’s Notebook flap wasn’t a big enough scandal for those leading the pack.
Old schoolers at CBS, who have never welcomed Katie, expected the Notebook plagiarism scandal to be the nail in her coffin, or at least the shovel digging her grave. But that never happened, as the Don Imus racism/sexism matter broke, taking the heat off Katie.
Cue a resuscitation of the push to damage Couric, with Scheiffer and Stahl leaking their agenda-laced accusations to Shister.
But those two CBS vets are only the public faces of the assault, we’re told. Many behind-the-scenes folks who have been with the show for years have been quietly running their mouths with Katie complaints.
A few newcomers – Rick Kaplan included – are still cheerleading the anchor. But those supporter numbers may remain few … until Sean McManus gets out the employment hacksaw.

“Cue a resuscitation of the push to damage Couric, with Scheiffer and Stahl leaking their agenda-laced accusations to Stahl.”
Stahl leaked to herself?
I believe the second mention of “Stahl” in the above quoted sentence was supposed to be ‘Shister.”
Read the article carefully. I like the way we go from suggesting Stahl and Schieffer are the leaks (”Then Roger Friedman went and fingered Bob Scheiffer and Leslie Stahl as the sources behind Gail’s item, citing their disdain for the anchor”) to ending by factually stating they were. (”Cue a resuscitation of the push to damage Couric, with Scheiffer and Stahl leaking their agenda-laced accusations to Shister”) No evidence is ever offiered. Talk about a hatchet job!
The problem is Katie is a Democrat and instead of just being a News Anchor… she does a political hatcheT job on the Republicans constantly.
You can not have it both ways… you are either a Political Hack or a News Person.
The new media, seems, they simply can not seperate their OPINIONS from real NEWS.
She is histroy soon. and that’s the way it is… I never liked her in the first place… she reminds you of the kid in school who brown noses the teacher.
They never should have put her in that position… it has NOTHING to do with being a women… it has to do with her PERSONAL POLITICAL Agenda.
She is truly a very mean spirited person…. dressed up with a big smile.
Can you say Elizabeth Edwards Interview…
…. that was the most crule… mean spirited interview I can remember in a long time….. her attack on Elizabeth showed that she was only there to promote her own political agenda again…… I saw the CLIPS elsewhere… did not watch it live..
I can’t wait to see her gone… I SWITCHED the channel like many other who share similar ideas.
Bye Bye Katie.
[…] Though certainly fingers will point at Leslie Stahl sympathizers. […]
