Kai Kühne

Word on the Runway:

'My statement is one of seductive femininity combined with masculine tailoring,’ the designer declares. And for s/s '07, his third solo outing, this meant utilizing what he calls, a ‘German origami’ technique, which ‘was fueled by the idea of intricate simplicity, by the vision of sharp icebergs in a glass of champagne, breaking and melting into soft silhouettes.’

Kühne described his collection, at times emotionally, as a coming to terms with that past and with growing up… He lightened up his ornate "German origami" technique and produced chic Breakfast at Tiffany's dresses and an elegant shantung evening coat. Furs, in collaboration with Saga, boosted the luxury level.

Anastasia says: I’m getting “teenage Russian hooker” from a lot of the fur pieces. Then there’s the dress that looks like it contains the universe, and the coat that looks like modern art, but less comprehensible. It’s all too conceptual to actually wear.
