The New York Times Discovers Ever-Trendy Africa

Stop everything. The New York Times made a discovery. Africa, with all its AIDS and starvation, is really, really trendy. So hip. So Angelina Jolie, so Gwyneth Paltrow … hell, even Madonna picked up on the trend.
And much as it may strain the limits of good taste to say it, Africa — rife with disease, famine, poverty and civil war — is suddenly “hot.”
Hot. And not just in a "I'm sweating through my loincloth" kind of hot. Like, being interested Africa is super hip. So hip, in fact, the Times will stop at nothing to pick up on the latest news coming from the continent.

What I don't get is how some stars don't just talk about the needy but take the opportunity when the camera is on them to stop and talk about themselves, thier tatoos, kids, you name it. And Brangelina are the worst. They talk of thier kids like they are mini ambassadors for their "humanitarian" work more than like they are human beings.
Turning babies into mini celebs, who are now being chased by the press too, to raise money for Africa ?!?! Where is the humanity.
Aren't people supposed to use thier celebs status to help the poor not the other way around.
Some stars are sincere, but they are probably the ones who donate annonnimously.
Some very obviously are in it for the tax right off or the fame. (Keep in mind that because Jolie did an awareness interview while in Namibia - she can right off most of her expenses there as work related)

I believe the ones who donate quitely.
