The Press Assembles Its New White House Team Accordingly

So it's already been decided by members of the press who the new movers and shakers are going to be once Obama takes office and is in a position to delegate power. But now in an effort to jump-start some favoritism, the press is actually acquiring some new blood to make up their White House correspondents and win some points with the new guy in charge.

While The New York Times has yet to announce its White House team, sources tell Politico that it will include Liberian-born journalist Helene Cooper, previously a diplomatic correspondent. Cooper has something in common with the president-elect — her own highly acclaimed memoir delving into her familial ties in Africa, published earlier this year.

Get it? Because she has family in Africa, and Obama has family in Africa? I can no longer tell if any of this smacks of a weird kind of racism, or if we are now as a country "post-race" (nope) and stuff like this, as well as reports on Black Power Brokers (but not Black-Power Brokers) are officially acceptable.

What are you blabbering about??? Do you not like that Helene Cooper is getting a promotion to White House correspondent? I don't understand what you are upset about.

Agreed mslewis. Perhaps — gasp — she deserved and earned the promotion, but the other information is an interesting aside. I think the Times is more evolved and sophistocated in race matters than Jossip gives it credit for. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the writer of this piece.
