This Is Worse Than When We Realized How Many Calories Are In A Frappuccino
all that time on the stairmaster was for naught

Breaking, and by breaking, we don't mean Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant breaking. This is much more important and interesting than that.

All those calories you think you're burning off at the gym, well, that's a lie. To be honest, we always had our doubts that doing the elliptical while watching Deal Or No Deal had any health benefit.

Now our suspicions have been confirmed by no greater source than the New York Times:

Exercise physiologists say there is little in the world of exercise as wildly exaggerated as people’s estimates of the number of calories they burn.

Despite the displays on machines at gyms, with their precise-looking calorie counts, and despite the official-looking published charts of exercise and calories, it can be all but impossible to accurately estimate of the number of calories you burn.

Maybe to editors at over there, this story is only Thursday Styles worthy, but to us, it's a Sunday Styles caliber issue.

The article goes on to reveal that if you the hand railings on the stairmaster reduces calories burned by 40 to 50 percent.

But those hand railings make stairmastering so much more pleasant!
