The Holmes backlash has been in effect for quite awhile now, what with her marrying that crazy guy and bearing his creepily-perfect alien love baby. But give credit where credit is due, Holmes isn't the worst actress in Hollywood today. (Melanie Griffith still gets work.)
Although fans of the Dark Knight were relieved when Maggie Gyllenhaal took over to play Katie's role, Holmes has always been one of those young actresses whose performance can best be described with words like "decent," "acceptable," and "passing." She was very good in Thank You For Smoking, actually. Unfortunately, as Mrs. Cruise tries to take Xenu's gospel to the Great White Way, her acceptable mediocrity isn't bowling over the Broadway audiences:

Ticket sales for All My Sons, which is running with Patrick Wilson (from the upcoming Watchmen film) and Holmes, have been lagging.
Inside reports all echo the sentiment that's been around since Dawson Creek ended and Katie moved on to the big screen: “It’s not that Katie’s bad in the part. She’s good enough. The producers are just getting the feeling people still want to view Katie as sweet little Joey Potter.”
Too bad Katie; if your celebrity draw was any less, critics might be willing to blame a show's poor ticket sales on something other than your acting ability.
But you chose this Thetan-filled coffin, so now you'll have to lie in it.

Maggie Gyllenhaal was terrible in Dark Knight. Had me dreaming of a "decent" performance from Katie Holmes.
Ms. Holmes was also pretty good in WONDER BOYS, playing the student of Michael Douglas' perpetually drunk and disorderly writing professor/once-wunderkind author. Her delicate evaluation of Douglas' newest draft (1100 pages and counting) is a stitch.
So, where are all these Sciencetologist who could, possibly, fill the seats? Surely, Tom has enough pull to get them to buy a ticket.
There are some good actors in this production (Diane Wiest(sp?) and John Lithgow). I have a feeling if Katie wasn't involved the play might have a decent chance of making a profit. I know I would see it without Katie.
Really? I thought her performance in "Thank You for Not Smoking" was more acceptable/passing.
Wow, I didn't know Lithgow was in the play. He should really be getting the buzz, not Katie. She is definately driving people away.
Exactly what I meant. I saw a poster for the play today and I had no idea such truly good actors were also in it. BIG mistake by the producers putting Holmes in that thing.
The opening night reviews will be very interesting!!
I must admit - I hope it bombs. I personally will never pay money for a project that I know involves Scientologists. Heck, they can believe in whatever they want - it's not the alien thing that bothers me - it's the fact that the corporate branch of the church of Scientology brainwashes vulnerable people and crazily harasses it's critics - 'if you don't agree with us, we're going to tell lies about you and drag your name through the mud'. Due the "church's" pyramid scheme nature, I decline from wasting any of my money on any projects where I know scientologists may profit - after all a dollar in Katie Holme's pocket is gonna end up in the COS bank account. Sorry…that's just how I feel.
…According to The Omniverse Almanac, Johnny Depp is actually one of the few very cool people inhabiting this planet, along with Steven Splielberg, Riccardo Mariti, Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake, Angelina Jolie, Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam, Bill Gates, Stephen Hawkings, Laurence Dale, the Dalai Lama…

Katie was awesome in Dawson's Creek (ah, well, until everything after the first season).
Katie Holmes rocked in Pieces of April.
Totally agree with Henny Penny, Pieces of April is the only movie in which she actually gives a good performance
