Uptight Cindy McCain Clearly Losing the Fashion Forward Award to Michelle Obama

michellecindy.jpg

Project Runway judge and catchphrase coiner Tim Gunn on lady style of the presidential campaign:

Michelle Obama
"From a fashion viewpoint, Michelle Obama looks so comfortable and relaxed in her style and her fashion, and she exudes that. She has a presence that gives you confidence in her."

Cindy McCain
"Cindy McCain looks like someone has twisted her pony tail into a knot and tried to give her a face lift."

The matching necklaces isn't hiding the fact that they both look like they can take a punch.

I think Tim Gunn's analysis is right on. Cindy McCain looks very uptight and Michelle Obama looks sophisticated and comfortable. Vote 4 Obama or Die!!!!

I think both need an overhaul, Michelle's hair is beat, it's worse than Cindy's, and Michelle is very tall and big, she isn't very femme, Cindy has her beat in that dept, she is slim and looks elegant in her clothing, her clothing is a little rodeo but attractive for a woman of her age, if her hair were toned down a bit she would win hands down. Sorry Tim, neither one wins the prize

Hillary, you're an idiot.

Gunn was commenting on style, not body-type/race. You seem to associate "elegance" with petite and blonde–and thereby anyone who would qualify as such would have to be a white woman. Michelle Obama is quite striking, she has great fashion sense, she's a professional woman who works for a living, and she has two young daughters. Cindy McCain is a spoiled solialite who inherited gobs of money and has funded McCain's political ambitions, is A DRUG ADDICT WHO STOLE PILLS FROM A CHARITY AIMED AT HELPING THIRD WORLD CLINICS, and has had so much plastic surgery she might as well be Joan River's sister. Cindy McCain dresses as her handlers tell her to (she also gave plagarized recipes to Redbook a while back to improve her image as "housewife-like" even though she's probably never cooked a meal in her whole privileged life–all their servants and whatnot). So, you say Michelle Obama isn't "femme" enough? She's a working mother, an activist, and an affectionate wife–what part of that bio, let alone her style, isn't femme? IF anything, your understanding of beauty is terribly limited and that's sad.

Does Tim Gunn do anything that is not great? I do not believe so.

I don't know if I would say that Michelle is not femme simply because she is tall and "big." She's tall. She can't shrink herself. I think she looks very fit and her clothes compliment her body and stature. I agree with the runway folks that she looks comfortable and relaxed. She usually looks great, conservative but not boring. I don't really pay attention to Mrs. McCain's clothes so I can't comment on her.

It seems that even making a comment people will turn it into a racial comment.

it's maddening to think that people are getting so worked up over the wives' fashion senses. personally, i'm all for michelle because i can identify with he style and think she seems more approachable. to chastise either because of her stature, seemingly immobile face, drug addiction, or beat hair is off point and in bad taste.

I love Michelle, she's a beautiful, curvy, strong, intelligent, out-spoken BLACK woman! That's why the media is trying to find fault with her. I guess some just believe that first ladies should all be like Cindy: a rich, skinny, conformist, non-opinionated, stepford-like, home-wrecking blonde (sarcasm).

Did it ever occur to anyone that neither of these women have any fashion sense whatsoever but have enough political sense to employ a stylist? This is total BS.

It is a really sad commentary on the low level of the media and the people that they could be so fixated on crap like hair and clothes - especially of people who are in a field of public service - two women by the way, who have graduate degrees and a history of professional work in their fields of expertise and then moved into other employment where they were (are) executives. They are not models. They are human beings of substance, no matter who one may support or oppose politically. I sure wish each of the critics could find themselves being entirely judged by the ultimate superficiality of style.

Tim Gunn needs a new prescription for his glasses. Or he needs to take a refresher class on fashion 101. We're not talking politics or where they stand on issues. "just fashion" Hands down Cindy Mccain wins, read the Vanity Fair they also agree.

Tim Gunn's opinion is obviously based on HIS politics rather than on fashion and style. Without any doubt, Cindy McCain wins for fashion, style, flair and being put together. Michelle Obama doesn't wear appropriate undergarments; her
fitted skirts and pants are always unbecoming, too tight and bunching from her waist down to her thighs or she's buying clothes in a smaller size than she is. Since Gunn's not judging dresses on a rack, he'd have to be blind not to see this.
Plastic surgery remarks are totally out of place,
who cares? Tim Gunn should be honest and preface his remarks with "Have to tell you right out, I'm
a big Obama fan."

Since what the wives look like really doesn't matter I don't know what some of you people are getting so worked up about…Namely "Whoever" As the other person said, "Relax Already" I've heard as many stereotyping against blondes in this forum as I have against Blacks…Calm the hell down…..

Cindy McCain, looks real classy and sophisticated. I saw her the other day and she was stunning! Michelle, when I saw her, looked like she was wearing something borrowed.

I don't think Michelle has any real fashion sense. Her clothes are usually dull and simple and she doesn't accessorize very well. Her black and red dress that was worn during her husband's victory speech was especially out of place. It looked like she had flames on her dress - very dark and ugly. I hope as First Lady she classes up her act and starts choosing elegant, classy clothes that are more fitting for her new role. She's a big hulking woman that really needs some help with her clothes.

oh my god, a "big hulking woman"??
meowww, I suppose you are a "little, tiny, woman"
Get over the notion that a woman must be small
to be beautiful. It's diminishing to all females.

Michelle has no taste in clothes…she looks dumpy. She could make the 'worse dressed list". She dresses to fit her personality….angry and without grace. Now some of you more stupid types can make a racial comment out of that like you do everything else.

Michelle Obama looks like a beautiful confident woman regardless of what she has on or what her dress size is. WOMEN, please elevate. Stop being so shallow. Judging a woman or a man by their clothes is so yesterday! WOMEN, I beg you stop behaving like you haven't got brains.

I would much rather be a tall woman of 5'11 than some small, tiny little twit. And being average size is just boring. I am sure Michelle Obama will have all kinds of fashion advisors once Obama is in office if it is all so important to everyone out there. POWER= HEIGTH AND MIGHT!
