Jill Ishkanian is still taking messages at Us Weekly. Or at least her voicemail is.
Even though Ishkanian left the magazine in October 2005 – and now runs paparazzi agency Sunset Photo & News – the tabloid has left her cell phone activated and lets it collect voicemail messages, complete with Jill's outgoing message greeting callers.
The West Coast office, then under Ken Baker's direction, was instructed to leave the phone in "active status," according to a cease and desist letter sent to Us Weekly. The demand to deactivate the phone number was sent in October 2006, and yet it remains turned on.
How come? As if you have to ask.
It's quite likely Us keeps the line active to continue collecting tips from Ishkanian's own sources who dial her old number and don't yet know she's left the magazine. According the cease and desist, "the voicemail box is monitored and emptied daily by Us Weekly."
We asked Janice Min about all this in an email, but she's yet to respond. Maybe we'll just leave her a voicemail on Jill's line.
