Vanity Fair Effectively Cancels The Oscars
We Owe you one, Graydon

Every day the WGA and the producers are like, “No, we’re getting close. Keep watching TV. We’ll have new programming soon.” And every day nothing happens, except American Idol is more inexplicably popular than ever.

And with the Academy Awards only a few weeks away, things need to get settled if People wants to run its standard 40 pages of Oscar Glamour spread. Writers are threatening to picket, and you know actors. They’ll do coke in public, but crossing a picket line will ruin their reputation.

But now it doesn’t matter if the Oscars go on, because its raison d'être has been abandoned. In sympathy with the striking writers, Vanity Fair has canceled its party.

“There will be something sort of liberating about ordering Chinese food and watching the Oscars in bed,” Graydon Carter said.

Well put. Now stars really will be like us. Except we prefer pizza.

    Graydon,
You should talk to the little people (who buy your ad-bulging magazine). We could have told you that ordering out Chinese food and eating it in bed with the TV on is the bomb! The only way to enjoy that tedious show with those stupid movie stars who get up on the stage and give these long-winded, "it's not all about me, but, really, it IS all about me and how do I look in this ridiculous dress that I don't even own and all this stupid jewelry that makes me look like a crusty old broad in the Lower East Side and, oh yeah, isn't it terrible what's happening in Dafur but I live in the Hills or Malibu and I don't have to ever run into these people, but maybe I'll adopt one or maybe…. I'll adopt a dog from Ellen's dog shelter. I'll drive a Pruis, but I'll never give up the private jet…".
Anyway, I for one will see if the Jane Austen Chronicles is still on PBS.
