Video Roundup: Bobby Jindal Takes His Licks

Maybe the Republicans had planned all along for Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal to blunder his big rebuttal after Barack Obama's State of the Union on Tuesday night. After all, that video has gotten way more play than anything Obama actually said during his speech, right? Below, we look at the five best videos related to Jindal's televised bumbling. Dare we say they've gone "viral"?

My Pet Goat

In case you missed it, here is the gist of Jindal's speech. It wouldn't be so bad if his cadence didn't sound like he was talking to a group of school children. Of course, that led some astute YouTuber to this accurate comparison…

The Muppets Take the GOP

Most people *cough*JIMMY FALLON*cough* like to compare Jindal's speech to that of the Appalachian page Kenneth from 30 Rock. Which is a really unfair characterization. Jack McBrayer is way less simplistic. A better comparison is with everyone's favorite green froggie. We're just waiting for him to sing, "It's not easy being the last hope for diversity in the GOP."

FNC Pulls On Collar, Sweats

Suffice it to say, Jindal's rebuttal to the "socialist" economic stimulus plan laid out by our president on Tuesday night did not go over so well. Like, "even Fox News can't come up with a good way of spinning this"-bad. Rush Limbaugh found some positive things to say, but then again, Jindal isn't a chick.

MSNBC's Response

Even funnier than Jindal's yokelish jabbering was MSNBC's giddy reaction to it. From Chris Matthews muttering "oh god" when Bobby walked up, to Rachel Maddow babbling, to Keith Olbermann giggling uncontrollably, these three were happier than they've ever been (including on November 4th).

Jindal Defends Sex Addicts

Sorry, that "gee golly" routine that Jindal perfected earlier this week doesn't sound colloquial when he's defending repeat sex offenders.

You missed David Brooks calling the speech a "disaster for the Republican party":

vindal should have spent the whole time talking about whether obama was really born in the U.S.

that would appeal more directly to his constituency

What next cutting off the hands of people who steal? Stoneings beheadings? Is this the middle east or America. THIS is the new hope the republican party? A guy named Pyrush who calls himself Bobby because he so self-hating he doesn't want to sound like what he is (an indian-american). He would lose with republicans anyway that don't trust brown people with weird names.

It's so odd how he came off as such a bonehead. He's actually pretty sharp, though you can't tell from that little speech. I thought he was joking for a while, though I couldn't quite figure out WHY he would be joking. It was, to be sure, a disaster.

There's a line in a song from the musical "A Little Night Music"…

Bobby Jindal is a Harvard Law Grad and a Rhodes scholar, but that was not his best day, for sure. I'm still a big fan, he has really turned LA around. One of the most corrupt states in the Union is now one of the cleanest. IL sure could use a Bobby Jindal.

@Rhonda: What have they done to him? That was not the gov of LA that I'm familiar with, at all. You're right, he's cleaned Louisiana up a lot, and that's saying something. Chicago's got nothing on Louisiana in the corrupt politics department. Scratch that - Blago blew them all out of the water.

What a hilariously infantile allegory. Good for him on the physical castration and death penalty stuff, though.

I hope he just had a bad night. Bobby is only 37 years old and a first term governor, who has done an amazing job. Unlike Obama, Jindal has actually accomplished something, ran something, has a record to run on. Liberals seem to like smooth talkers rather than those who work hard to get things done. Really was hoping Bobby Jindal could do both :( He still has time, thankfully.

@Rhonda: Clinton's first exposure to the nation was a disaster as well, so anything can happen.
